Once upon a time in America ...

... there was a political party that took pride in being "The Party of Lincoln". It styled itself as the "Grand Old Party", and acted accordingly. While it served as the loyal opposition to the Democratic party, it served with dignity and civility.

The phrase our friends across the aisle meant exactly that. Both parties had the same goal in mind - to form a more perfect union - and the only difference between them was the difference in how best to achieve that common goal.

But that was once upon a time - a time that only exists in memory.

Today's Republican party is nothing more than an insane asylum being run by its most unhinged inmates. Its voters are delusional conspiracy theorists, and its elected officials are corrupt panderers more than willing to embrace those delusions in order to retain power.

It is the party that attempted to overthrow the democracy it swore to uphold - it is the party that claims to uphold law and order while, at the same time, it works relentlessly to undermine it.

It is the party that embraces a corrupt, draft-dodging, *****-grabbing grifter as its leader, while pretending to be moral, ethical "Christians" - despite having abandoned all the tenets of their religious faith and replaced it with idolization of a man who stands for everything Christianity has always opposed.

The Republican party is no more. What stands in its stead is a collection of lunatics who rail against things like the gazpacho police.

I'll leave it there. In spite of the fact so much more can be said about todays GOP, I believe that one statement pretty well sums up who they are and what they stand for.

While Republicans fight against the Muppets, DisneyWorld, and M&Ms, no one is willing to stand up against the existence of the gazpacho police - for fear of losing the insane voters who think the inane ramblings of a whack-job like MTG represent the future of their party.

I take it someone hasn't been following current events closely. Right now, the "delusional conspiracy theorists" are looking more and more like they're just people who are ahead of the game.

Most conservative Christians are well aware of the unethical things Trump apparently did, and are not in favor of them, nor will we hold him up as a role model for Godly living. However, most conservative Christians in America (Myself included) would much rather have someone like that who at least treats Christians with respect and ensures their basic religious rights will be protected, than the Dems who often demonstrate open hostility towards Christianity and go out of their way to trample on Christians' rights in any way they can.
 Case in point: Hillary Clinton, in a speech she gave very shortly before officially beginning her 2016 campaign, openly said that Christians' religious beliefs "Need to be changed" in order to better advance her rabidly pro- abortion agenda. This idea (A political leader seeking to force citizens to change their personal religious beliefs) goes against the very concept of Freedom of Religion.
Trump, in contrast, shortly after taking office, signed Executive Order 13798, "Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty." This Executive Order, among other things, ensures that the Department of Treasury cannot take adverse action against any person or religious organization that speaks about moral or political issues from a religious perspective, AND issued a badly- needed amendment to Obama's odious Birth Control Mandate (A policy which, among other things, forced Christian pro- life employers by law to go against their religious tenets and the basic leanings of their consciences by forcing them to pay for their employees' abortions as part of their healthcare plans, out of fear of being branded as criminals if they don't) enabling Christian pro- life employers to be exempt from the mandate.
Again, I'd rather have my president be someone who, while not exactly a role model for Godly behavior, at least helps to ensure I and my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ can practice our religious beliefs in peace and have our basic rights respected, than someone who is openly hostile towards our beliefs and would seek to force us by law to abandon them.
I also have not seen a single conservative Christian who worshipped Trump over Jesus.

When an amoral person does something that is right, what they did is right regardless of the character of the person who did it.

Having been around Evangelical Christians for over 6 decades, I can categorically state that I have never heard a President of either party spoken of in worshipful terms. NEVER. Further, even the least respect-worthy have, in my experience, at least been afforded the respect due the office. But such matters are beyond Nance's capacity or willingness to understand, drunk or sober.
