Star Member Kablooie (17,475 posts)https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216542980Beware of dismissing Trump as an idiot.Yes, he's an ignorant, selfish, buffoon but that didn't prevent him from winning the presidency. In fact those qualities are probably the reasons he won and Trump knows it.I worry that he will run and win again.Impossible!, you say. The Republican party is leaving him, you say.I say:He has corrupted large portion of the Republican party in many states who will skew the voting tally to favor him.He is desperate to regain the presidency to protect himself from prosecution. The majority of the Republican party believe his lie that the election was stolen.Remember:We laughed when he entered the race.We laughed when he had his ludicrous rallies. We laughed when he debated Hillary. We laughed. He won.If he decides to run again he will easily win the Republican nomination no matter what the media says right now.The more arrogant and the worse he does in any debates, the more Republican votes he will gain. The majority of Republicans don't understand or care about a debate. They only want to see how he owns the Democratic nominee. The more he can disrupt debates and campaigns, the more popular he will become and he knows this.He has openly been committing crimes for more than 4 years and still not a single serious case has been brought against him.He is an idiot but he has a genius for instilling a cult mentality in nearly half of the Republican electorate and manipulating the legal system so that he never has to face consequences for his crimes.Beware of dismissing the idiot side of this monster. The other side will destroy everything we hold dear if it's not taken seriously.
RockRaven (10,235 posts) 4. Because he's an *lazy* evil idiot, he attracts much more competent assholes who are happy tohelp him get what he wants because they also can get what they want through his power.
Star Member Skittles (141,860 posts) 5. he "won" with misogyny and help from Russiahe is a cheating, lying bastard
Star Member PufPuf23 (7,598 posts) 15. Trump also won and remains a factor because of the ownership and management of MSM.
Star Member brush (40,456 posts) 6. trump is undoubtely an idiot, a lucky one, but definitely an idiot. He's used his old man's money, and that stolen from Mary Trump's father, to go into several businesses where he dodged paying his bills and got out of it by suing at the drop of a hat because he had more money to outlast vendors that sued him. He's an idiot all right, propped up by ties to Putin, and that doesn't look so smart now does it? Calling monstrous war criminal Putin a genius will haunt him.Oh, and if trump had just invested his money in safe investments like etfs or high yield mutual funds, he'd be richer than his multi-bankrupt ass is now.Russian state-controlled media just today called for people to "help our partner trump." https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216543089Good luck trump with being publicly called an asset/partner by Putin's media.
stopdiggin (6,342 posts) 16. everything I have ever seen (as much as I can willingly stomach) of the manconvinces me that he is a person of very mediocre intellect and intelligence. And as often as we come back to the point, there doesn't seem to be any evidence otherwise. Almost without exception, there just does not appear to be any real 'there', there.
Star Member SoonerPride (11,157 posts) 7. I fully expect him to be installed in 2025He will lose the EC but right wing battleground states will replace their electors and send them to flip the vote. And there is nothing we can do to stop it.
Star Member brush (40,456 posts) 39. It'll never happen. He won't even be the nominee. He's too tainted by Putin who is now seen as a blood-stained war criminal.
Star Member smirkymonkey (62,415 posts) 8. I find it hard to believe that such a complete loser can be so lucky for so long. His luck has got to run out at some point. And I hope when it does, he will go down spectacularly.
Star Member tavernier (10,197 posts) 9. Blah blah blah. He's an idiot. That’s all.
Star Member robbob (3,139 posts) 21. But the real problem is(or seems to be); being an idiot, even being obviously an idiot, doesn’t seem to disqualify you from becoming president. At least 33% of Americans don’t seem to care, or don’t care to see, how completely unqualified he is for the job. And 33% plus gerrymandering and voter suppression combined with a slanted media that will gin up support for an idiot while criticizing and thus suppressing votes for a qualified candidate might be just enough to put him back in. God help us all.
Star Member brush (40,456 posts) 40. He won't even be the nominee. Too tainted by his...ties to war criminal Putin. Russian media is praising him and calling their partner. And he's just publicly asked Putin, who is in the middle of his invasion of Ukraine, to help him get dirt on the Biden family.Talk about not knowing how to read the moment.Again, the idiot will not be the nominee.
Star Member Baitball Blogger (41,179 posts) 11. Trump is a man who was raised understanding the power of white privilege. He seems stupid to us only because he keeps making decisions that we just assume will get him in trouble. But, he knows he will never have to face consequences. That's what he knows, that we don't want to accept. He's living that privileged life that many of us keep harping about and Trump is now proving is real.
Star Member gab13by13 (8,905 posts) 13. Trump is not stupid,he is mentally ill. When he asks Rafensperger to find him 11,780 votes, prosecutors say we can't indict him because he actually believes he won Georgia, that is brilliant, playing stupid. He works for mobsters, he launders money, he never emails, he gets people to do his dirty work.He paid off Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen went to jail because he delivered the check that was signed by Trump. he is brilliant, the statute of limitations has expired. He is the first president in 40 years to not release his taxes. He never divested his businesses, he made money from being president while Jimmy Carter had to sell off his peanut farm, brilliant. He lied about his finances to buy the lease for the DC Hotel which anyone who wanted to see him paid to stay there. Brilliant. And then when Tish James wanted to look into how he acquired the DC Hotel under false pretenses, he was allowed to sell his lease and make millions in profit. brilliant. While president he had taxpayers buy his golf course, golf carts, which he then leased to the Secret Service. Brilliant.Donald Trump lost the 2020 election and he is still the leader of the Putin Party, politicians travel to Mar-el-Loco to kiss his ring. BrilliantHe is being sued by E. Jeanne Carroll, who he supposedly raped in a department store, and he got Merrick Garland to defend him in court by defending the office of the presidency. I guess defaming someone who accuses you of rape is an official duty of the presidency. Brilliant.Underestimate Trump at our peril.
Warpy (101,992 posts) 17. He is an idiot, that's well establishedHowever, he is a very wealthy idiot who can hire smart people to do all the mental heavy lifting. Plus, he is a malignant narcissist, which means the personality of a rabid, cornered rat. He has neither an emotional nor moral center. The combination of wealth with that makes him very, very dangerous.
Star Member Vinca (48,097 posts) 36. Sorry to say, I fully expect him to win the next election. Never underestimate the stupidityof a large chunk of our population. Trump is, after all, still raking in millions from people who live hand-to-mouth and will keep on draining their pockets until he takes his last breath. I can't imagine what lala land they live in, but I wish to hell they would wake up and find their way out.
Star Member Johnny2X2X (12,722 posts) 47. People struggle with thisCharismatic leaders can be dumb and still get people to follow them. They just have to have a knack for a couple key things, Trump has a knack for self promotion, he uses it to get what he wants. IQ wise? He's probably below 100, but he's a genius at a couple aspects of his life, self promotion and not paying his bills.Hitler was an idiot too, but he had an aptitude for manipulating the masses. Both Trump and Hitler had groups of enablers around them who are smarter than they are, people who see their power and want to gain from it too. It's these people that are the ones consolidating the support into action.

He still owns that party, no matter how many pictures of his sparsely-attendedrallies people may post. For those who think there will be some kind of "Romney-fied" transition to "normalcy" in the GOP (cough*Joe Scarborough*cough), well, I'd like to have some of what they're smoking.
The other side will destroy everything we hold dear if it's not taken seriously.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
This is DU, putting the "Moron" in "Oxymoron" since January 2001.
Sparsely-attended? There's a mental condition associated with this type of denial.
Ya, same "meme" since Bush. Either too stupid to wipe his ass or so smart he planned it all .....
