Why do people believe conspiracy theories?

Not just right wing ones, but all kinds of conspiracy theories?

7. Because they might be true.
For example, I don’t believe Oswald acted alone.

25. Exactly. Was there a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election?
Was there a conspiracy to use the Gulf of Tonkin "incident" to escalate the Viet Nam war?

Was there a conspiracy to stop the vote count in Florida during the 2000 election?

Was there a conspiracy to manipulate intelligence to justify the Iraq invasion?

Conspiracies, large and small, go on around us every day.

I don't like the knee-jerk reaction to the phrase "conspiracy theory", a phrase coined by our government to ridicule people who questioned the Warren Report.

Of course, not all conspiracy theories are true, nor are they all of equal validity.

But bear in mind the old adage "The Devil's greatest trick was convincing people he doesn't exist".

Wasn't DU created as a result of a conspiracy theory?
"They cannot win. We outnumber them in this country, and we have the guns… I’m not kidding. They talk a mean game, but they will not cross that line because they know what they’re dealing with."

In the case of "right wing" ones, it's because they keep turning out to be true.

I'm not a biologist.

But 'conspiracy' is the word that trips people up.  Everyone has theories.

"Conspiracy Theory" or "Mortadella Theory", is there any anti-Trump ______-Theory too preposterous to be believed and defended to near-death by a substantial number of DU-folk?

A truer adage I don't know...of course I doubt that most DUmmies would agree with it, but as they'll be meeting him soon enough...

In the last 2 years the phrase "conspiracy theory" simply meant; give it 6 months and you'll call it fact.

Yeah, they should be renamed "Spoilers".

I heard a comedian say that he no longer follows conspiracy theories. They all turned out to be true and he has no left.

The lack of self awareness is just stunning at the DUmp. Just. Stunning.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
