Why are cheerleaders at the NCAA tournament wearing masks?
« on: March 20, 2022, 05:21:52 PM »
Think y'all know I'm a sports fan, and enjoying the NCAA basketball tournament.

But have noticed that while almost no one in the stands at the various arenas are wearing the Fauci virtue signaling mask, all of the damn cheerleaders are.  Makes me wonder if there is some mandate on the cheer squads in general or their universities.  Or have these 18-22 year old's been so brainwashed by the masking lefties?

Wondering if anyone else has been paying attention and noticed this.

Maybe if they are wearing masks they can hire ugly ones and save a few bucks. :-)

I don't know what this basketball thing you speak of is, but maybe they're doing what the NCAA requires. Academia bureaucrats are like gooberment bureaucrats, but without civil service protection.

Shush, old man!

Sports are a wonderful diversion from real life.  But I'm intellectually curious as to why this is a rule or a practice.

In some cases, the masks they're wearing are bigger than the female ladies' skirts. :cheerleader2:

I'm with Pete on this one -- couldn't care less about basketball, curling, or NFL football. Just. Not. Interested.

But I continue to see kids (anyone younger than 25) wearing face diapers even when nobody else is. I've come to the conclusion that the face diapers are part of the uniform that every kid wants to assimilate. When I was a kid, I wanted (and got) a Nehru jacket. Today it's face diapers.

This is why we can't have nice things anymore. The elite class has permanently warped kids' brains. And this is why Fauci desperately needs a frontal lobotomy.

I just never got into basketball. Baseball and football I used to enjoy, but when those sports went full-woke, scroom. The closest I've been to a baseball stadium in the past decade has been driving past the Oakland Coliseum on I880, and the closest to a football stadium was on a 10K course where the trail was across a creek from the 49ers' stadium (the Indian food in the event's recovery area was far more interesting, and tasty).

I don’t get it either. The players aren’t, the refs aren’t, the fans aren’t. Don’t know about the people running concessions or security. But yes, it’s stupid.

Nehru jacket huh.  Classy, did you get the accompanying pipe and wear an ascot?

Think you all know I'm being more than a bit sarcastic about you non-sports fans.  Some like myself grew up in a sports household and was indoctrinated into playing from about the time I could walk.  Everyone can enjoy their particular life's passions or diversions without being shamed or criticized.  Lord knows I know very little about firearms, comic books or the related Marvel/superhero movies, or military strategy.  The great part of America is one can have different tastes.

But of course! That was part of the uniform. And, as I recall, I had a meerschaum pipe and the ascot was puke-yellow.  :-)

And the same can be said about all you sports nuts.  :stoner:

You weren't the only one. I played football and ran track (220 - back then everything was in yards). Played a lot of sandlot baseball and later in life, softball. But being glued to a TV watching a bunch of folks do whatever they do -- nah.

Of course. Nobody's shaming you, Ralph. Maybe a couple of us on this thread don't give a rip about basketball. That's it. No criticism of you personally.

Well, I know a couple of things about a couple of things on that list. And music - real music, that is. Most of that popular music crap is just that -- crap.

I pretty much assume that to some I interact with online, some of the things I enjoy are odd or weird. WW2 History, running events, Indian & Thai food, Empire Builder series board games ... not to everyone's tastes. And that's great, different people, different tastes.

personally I think professional "sports" are a problem. You have a bunch of men being paid mega millions to play with a f**king BALL. They have the collective IQ of a stump and voice opinions on subjects of which they know less than nothing and complain about being down trodden and discriminated against.
They say they want social justice but yet won't donate 1 minute of their time or 1 dollar of their $$ to help some poor kids. People sit on their asses watching this shit and stuffing their faces with junk food that is killing them, they go to "sports" bars and consume vast quantities of shit taht is killing them when they should be doing something constructive or at least good for their health.

Well, I'd say there are definitely a few philanthropists in retired athletes. One person who comes to mind has been recognized time and again by those who know and love him, because he's a true gentleman and goes out of his way to help people - Shaquille O'Neal. Probably the most generous person I'd ever heard of and while I paid zero attention to his basketball career while he was playing it, he's a true rock star in retirement.

There are indeed a lot of a professional athletes that are very generous and charitable.  Some do it quietly while others make a big production out of doing charitable functions.  I prefer the first type.

And I knew you weren't shaming me, my friend.  We all have different interests for our amusement.  Sports and politics are just my two favorites. :cheersmate:
