Channel Changin' Hero

Armed only with a remote and an overblown sense of relevance, DUmmies continue to fight for societal change, one TV at a time.

Omaha Steve (83,553 posts)

So Fox was playing on the TV

I had to get a slow leak in a tire fixed. I walked in and sure enough, Fox was on the TV. It was running down President Biden. There was a lady sitting there watching it. When they called her to the front desk, they explained the tire she had could not be fixed. A previous patch was leaking. Then they told her both FRONT tires on her front wheel drive were under 4/32. They did say she would get ONE new tire free with the road hazard warranty she had.

She called her husband about what to do on her cell phone. After she explained it would be $350 total for the second front tire and an alignment, he started yelling loud enough for me to hear him. After several minutes he demanded to talk to the manager on her cell. It went down hill. She took the phone outside.

I rushed to the counter and asked to change the station. They gave me the remote. I switched to MSNBC. Before I left there were THREE new customers that came in to wait on work, watching MSNBC.

My tire (a nail and a stem leak) was covered by a road hazard warranty. No charge. I left smiling, feeling good about changing the channel away from Fox.

I found it odd that Omaha Skeeve felt compelled to include all the irrelevant details about the other customer's transaction. I guess he needed some filler for the story.

Of course they all hail the conquering hero's return:

6. How could a single tire cost $350?! Even if you factor the new warranty on the covered tire,

(usually $20), balancing and discard fees, my heavens. Not to defend a Fox-cultist, but damn.

This sounds like it might have been Discount Tires (?), which has always done well by me. In fact, when I had a flat last month, they decided to cover the second tire too because it had sidewall cracks. So to replace two warranted tires, I paid $65 and those were two expensive special snow-rated all-weather radial tires that had to be ordered from a regional warehouse.

Just saying... Maybe she was charged the a'hole premium?

Why is it assumed that the lady chose what was on the TV? Most waiting rooms I've been in keep it FOX because it's a popular channel. Most clients I've ever seen just stare blankly at whatever's on, or leaf through a magazine, or play on their phones, waiting for their name to be called. Only moonbats make an issue of what's on the tube.

16. When Fux is on, assume the management are dishonest.

Honest people cannot stomach all that bullshit.

I have permanently written off tire shops for those reasons (Fux on TV AND dishonest).

It's a real shame there wasn't a magazine rack nearby.  Then the DUmmie could have had a "two-fer" by turning some of them backwards.

And, I've never heard of a road hazard warranty covering tire wear.  Tread down to 4/32 sounds like the tire was just worn out.

No cops jumped out of the bushes.

Fixed.

The THREE new customers were probably just amazed that someone who’s been on his deathbed for almost a decade was in their presence and watching TV.

I'm curious why omaha steve spent the money to buy a road warranty on his tires.  He's been ready to die any day for years and seems like tire longevity would be the last thing on his mind...

Complete crock of hooey, written from the bouncy template.  Negative bongs, nothing either groundbreaking or earth shattering.  You're a "veteran" at the DUmp, you can do better than that, Steve.

He's just trying to become relevant again.

Plus or minus the three new customers, it's plausible. No service counter dude(tte) who wants to keep their would respond to OS with anything like, "Change it? Why? What's wrong with you?!" Much as OS deserved it, the tire center would want to keep his business.

And probably about the time his car's tires hit the street or road to head home the channel was changed back, the mechanic shouted their "Thank you", and the three new customer jumped out of their chairs and cheered. :-)

I never cared what was on television to the point of actually remembering any clicker-kerfuffles.

There's a tire-place in Newberry, Michigan where the tv changes channels automatically every 10-minutes.  If you don't like something, duck out of the room.

You know I have never stayed at a tire store while they put my tires on. I'm too busy doing other things. They call me and I pick my car, truck, or RV up at my convenience.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
