Racist graffiti found at McClatchy High School in Sacramento, CA led to protests. Now the school district (@officialSCUSD) has admitted a black female student confessed to the graffiti. Local NAACP & other activists don't believe the revelation.

The Sacramento City Unified School District announced Thursday that it has identified the suspect responsible for vandalizing C.K. McClatchy High School last week with racist graffiti. On Feb. 11, an individual wrote "white" and "colored" over a school water fountain, referencing the Jim Crow era.

Mark T. Harris, the district's race and equity monitor, told CBS13 that a black female student has confessed to the vandalism, and was caught on camera in the act. Harris said that he believes the vandalism was not a racially motivated act.

"I don’t believe those words that were on those water fountains were racist," Harris said. "I do not believe they were hate crime or hate speech. Part of it quite honestly is because the admitted perpetrator is a young African American woman."

According to CBS13, the student said during an interview that it was a prank.

Community activist Berry Accius, from the Voice of the Youth, said there should be zero-tolerance for such an act.

"I disagree with it not being a hate crime because at the end of the day we understand when you have colored on one water faucet and white on another kind of faucet what that means – whether it’s 1950 or 2022," Accius said.

Accius joined other activists from the Sacramento NAACP and Black Youth Leader in calling for the district to be more transparent in their findings, and raised doubts about the student's confession, reportedly citing mistrust of the district’s past handling of racist acts.

According to CBS13, the incident comes amidst a number of racial incidents that have occurred in the school district.

In the past week,  graffiti was found at Abraham Lincoln Elementary with messages including "KKK," the N-word, and a swastika drawing.

"In a statement, the district said they are working with law enforcement, hired an attorney focusing on social justice issues, implemented anti-racism training for staff, and are promoting 'social emotional learning' in hope of preventing future similar incidents," CBS13 reported.

The demand far exceeds the supply.

Another fake hate crime in California

We’ve seen enough of these stories over the past several years to make them hardly worth mentioning, but the response to this incident by both the media and the Sacramento school district where it took place merits a closer look. The “hate crime” in question took place at C.K. McClatchy High School on February 11th. Someone spray-painted the words “colored” and “white” above a pair of drinking fountains at the school, suggesting racial segregation during the Jim Crow era. An investigation was immediately launched to determine who could have perpetrated such an outrageous, racist desecration of the school. Unfortunately for the perpetrator, the vandalism was caught on camera. And unfortunately for those who were loudly pointing to it as yet another example of racial intolerance in America, the graffiti had been applied by a female, Black teenage student who is not being named because she is a minor.

AFAIK. California, as a state, never had Jim-Crow-style whites-only and "coloreds"-only facilities. My earliest memories only go back to the late 50s, but I know from their casual talk about classmates that in the late 20s and early 30s my parents' elementary schools and high school were unsegregated (e.g., when they mentioned classmate "______ Fong", I knew they had classmates of Chinese heritage). I doubt that blacktivists and victimologists would teach their students/children facts inconvenient to their Victim Ideology and Identity.

I do know, from a family history story, that CA had an anti-miscegenation law that apparently was still on the books into the 1950s, but from knowledge of families of some of my 1950s-born classmates, it was not being enforced in the 1950s. Re the family story, my very tanned uncle, when applying for a marriage license, was asked about his ancestry by a moronic officious courthouse bureaucrat. It was several years before I was born, but in telling of his ancestry I hope he let the bureaucrat know what a moron (s)he was (he was US-born Volga German and his first language was German ... Germans tend to be a rather direct or blunt culture).
