Drudge Is Dead

Quote
What exactly has happened to the formerly must-read Drudge Report?

It may seem like yesterday to old Washington hands, but it was actually more than a quarter-century ago that a manager of a gift shop in a television network building in greater Hollywood, a 20-something with a thirst for movie star gossip, signaled the end of the establishment media’s chokehold on the American public. He started an amateurishly formatted website featuring links to important but under-the-radar online articles, to go along with his own mysteriously obtained scoops.

It was, let us never forget, Matt Drudge who broke the Monica Lewinsky story that led to Bill Clinton’s presidential impeachment and Senate trial, only the second in American history. Shortly before Drudge dropped his bomb, in an exquisite self-indictment of media bias and protectiveness of Democrats in power, Newsweek, then a half-century-old journalistic institution whose huge Washington bureau was near the top of a high rise on Pennsylvania Avenue a half block from the White House, killed its exclusive story revealing the sex scandal. It had been the work of Michael Isikoff, a famously aggressive – and left-leaning – veteran Washington reporter.

The Drudge Report is no more. It has become a shell of its former self.

I haven't gone to Drudge in several years.  He was absolutely a never Trumper and it showed.

Completely agreed.  There was just something about President Trump that set off a lot of people, and I've never figured out why.

Thankfully, there are plenty of solid conservative sites to use instead of Drudge.

I more or less ceased using Drudge a decade ago or so due to time "bandwidth", and when the site went full Never-Trump habit became decision even though by then I had a bit more time for news browsing.

Never-Trumpers have a bitter dishonesty rendering them unable to admit Trump did anything right without a boat load of Yeah-Buts. "Allahpundit" on Hot Air is that way, and he's also sloppily informed about matters Covid. I largely ignore his Trump and 1/6 related posts and take his other posts with a moderate sized block of salt. Power Line has a writer who is a Trump-Skeptic, but who is not a dishonest Never-Trumper, and he doesn't bother me. Hot Air and Power Line are among the news/opinion sites I visit daily (also PJ Media; Bongino Report some, and SRN News some).

SRN News is a relatively new site. Its format is similar to Bongino or Just The News, except a little more plain-vanilla news and a little less opinion (which I prefer). It was created by Salem communications, which owns some religious stations, some news/opinion stations (e.g. Hugh Hewitt and Dennis Prager), and several blogsites (e.g. Red State, Hot Air, and PJMedia). IOW, while new, it is built on a solid media foundation. I'm not sure how Salem Communications hasn't made DU's Media Shit-List along with News Corp and Sinclair.

Me either.  He basically committed suicide on the battlefield.

I haven't seen SRN News, but I have subscribed to 1440 Daily Digest News, and it's basically a two-page (with links) of the current news with NO opinion. Some of it I'm not interested in anyway (sports, culture) but it does offer a non-tainted fairly quick-reading of what's going on.

Like RedState and PJMedia, they send you an email and you can dive in right from there.
