Valentine's Day is around the corner so it's time for DU to have their annual fundraiser focused on all the lonely losers who post there. And, as always, you have members offering up hearts if you beg for them and members who are more than happy to beg. Some members will brag about all the hearts they have and someone will complain about the "popularity contest" aspect of the whole thing. Some members will post threads about having no hearts in a desperate plea for attention. Someone will figure out you can give hearts to yourself. But the real selling point is to make people who have driven away their friends and family with their political views to feel like they have some interpersonal relationship with the rest of the DUmmies. Since so many of them have no friends in real life, a heart from some random stranger on a message board is the closest they are going to get to an acknowledgement that they even exist. It's actually a brilliant way for the DU Admin to get them to cough up their left over welfare money. Well someone doesn't like all the spamming threads about hearts:

Or move the thank you's to the lounge, and save GD for topical discussion?

10. If I may offer an alternate viewpoint...
I'm glad everyone enjoys the giving and getting of hearts once a year, but let's not forget that Hearts week is ultimately a fundraiser for DU. Therefore, during this week only, I don't mind if people want to start thank you threads wherever they like because it keeps the fundraiser front and center.
Even with many thank you threads, I'd argue that it's less obtrusive than the old days when we used to have big banners at the top of every page and generally bug the heck out of everyone during our fund drives.
Folks who don't wish to see thank you threads could always trash the keywords "heart" or "hearts" or even "thank you" in My Account > Trash Can -- just for this week -- and then they won't have to be bothered by them.
So all of a sudden all the rules about what you can post, and where you can post it are out the window. And don't forget the DUmp monkeys go absolutely batshit over the posting rules. Also, it's been a long standing complaint over there that the Admins are completely non-responsive to their whining. Well, now ya know. Want to get the Admins involved all you got to do is post a comment that infringes the tiniest bit in their money making ventures. And, done properly, the DUmmies will hand over their money and thank you for taking it from them.
