This JFK Jr. thing that happened in Dallas is spooking me.

I'm obviously not a very eloquent writer, but I'll try to convey my point.

We all know that there are a lot of whack jobs out there. But when you see actual examples, it brings the thought of these whack jobs to a different level.

I think there were several hundred people waiting for JFK Jr. to show up in Dallas? This tells me that there are most likely millions of others, maybe tens of millions, who didn't make the trip to Dallas, and who believe that JFK Jr. is still alive, and is going to make an announcement that tfg is a king.

This leads to the notion that literally anyone can type some words on a social media platform, be consistent and relentless about it, and if those words confirm enough people's biases, then those false statements will most likely go viral, and the next thing you know, a third of the country swears to God that they saw Harry Truman and Elvis having coffee together.

I posted before that despite a bit of shame in doing so, I lurk a local businessman's social media page under someone else's account (with permission). I do this because I have done business with this guy before I knew he was insane.

I have inherited my departed mother's sense of sussing out people and deciding if they are "good" or "bad" within 30 seconds of meeting them. Well, when I first met this guy, I disliked him immediately. He's one of those assholes who tries to break your hand during a handshake. I seethe with rage when someone does this to me. I have a very strong grip, so what ended up happening with this guy during our initial handshake was both of us standing there, staring each other down, trying to break each other's hand. I knew immediately that this guy was an asshole. I won't go into the reasons why I had to do business with him, but I will say that I pretty much did not have a choice.

This guy has been in my home. We have communicated via telephone and email.

A few years after our transaction, I went to one of his social media pages, just for the hell of it.

Turns out he's a Trumper and Q guy. I don't want to bring the stuff he posts into DU, but suffice to say that it is the most bizarre, insane, ****ed up shit that I have ever seen in my life. It's the type of stuff that makes you feel dirty and ashamed just by reading it.

Now, you might think that it's no big deal because it is just one guy doing this. But his bullshit gets HUNDREDS of likes, and dozens of affirmative responses. From people who live within 10 miles of me. I know some of these people. Hundreds of likes locally, and I live in a a relatively small town, in a blue state.

My point is as follows. This disinformation, or lack of knowledge, or detachment from reality, or whatever you want to call it...is a big ass problem, bigger than I ever realized.

If I knew how to fix this, I wouldn't be just some schmuck typing on DU. Instead, I would be fixing the problem. But I kind of feel that the cat has been let out of the bag, and it's too late. The problem got ahead of us, and now it's going to take decades to address properly.

I think some kind of commission, or a task force with some legal teeth, needs to be set-up to figure out how to handle this.

This stuff can't be shrugged off.

QAnon is less prevalent than ANTIFA, they just get in your head by typing outlandish stuff.  Anyway, the back story:

QAnon supporters gather in downtown Dallas expecting JFK Jr. to reappear
Some believe the reappearance of John F. Kennedy’s son, who died in a plane crash in 1999, will bring about the reinstatement of Donald Trump as president.

Scores of QAnon believers gathered Tuesday afternoon in downtown Dallas in the hopes that John F. Kennedy Jr. would appear, heralding the reinstatement of Donald Trump as president.

The supporters first gathered Monday night in downtown Dallas, and about 1 p.m. Tuesday there were several hundred people near Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

Kennedy’s son died in a plane crash in 1999 at age 38, but some supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory believe that he has spent the last 22 years in hiding. They think John F. Kennedy Jr. will reappear at the plaza before midnight Tuesday, Newsweek reported.

One post from a widely followed QAnon social media account said that after Trump was reinstated as president, he would step down and JFK Jr. would become president. Then former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn would be appointed as his vice president and Trump would ultimately become the “king of kings,” according to Newsweek.

Experts who have been following QAnon since its inception said that even they were surprised by the number of people who showed up Tuesday in Dallas.

”Frankly, I’m kind of shocked at how many people turned out for this,” said Jared Holt, a resident fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab who researches domestic extremism. “This wasn’t a widespread belief, even among QAnon followers.”

The QAnon conspiracy theory centers on fealty to Trump, who adherents believe will dismantle a shadowy “Deep State,” which they believe comprises leftist politicians and celebrities who are pedophiles.

I would have never heard of Q or 4chan or whatever site until lefties started blaming everything on the "alt-right" and "QAnon".  They need a boogeyman to blame for everything, including this claim that "CRT isn't real nor is it taught in schools" when it is a proven fact that Virginia's public schools have adopted parts of the ridiculous and factually untrue critical race theory.
