A Nigerian man has been forced to divorce 82 of his 86 wives, leaving a mere four spouses to keep him company.

The emir of Bida ordered Mohammadu Bello Abubakar, 84, to comply with the decree, which saved him from a death sentence.

He must divorce them all within two days.

Last week one of Nigeria's top Islamic bodies, the Jamatu Nasril Islam, sentenced him to death for having more than four wives.
