Two statements about Afghanistan:
I am woefully ignorant with respect to the complexities of international Geopolitics, and therefore rarely if ever comment upon these issues. I rely upon better educated, more aware individuals and rarely venture commentary, for it would be founded in naïveté and lack of any true knowledge base.
However two things strike me at this time:
First, we all knew this was eventually going to happen in the year 2001. The joke used to be that people who fight in Afghanistan and blow larger rocks into smaller rocks, and nothing else ever changes.
Second, I always found it “Interesting” that the James Bond film “The Living Daylights” is rarely if ever shown commercially, because the Taliban are portrayed as the heroes whilst they and NATO are fighting the Russians. How things have changed in so short of time.
Quite frankly, I was surprised contemporaneously with the release of the film that the producers and writers of the Bond films would choose a religious group who is known for oppression of women and people of other religious groups as allies of the West. Do recall tgat this plot was not Ian Fleming’s but woven out of the air.
Just a few thoughts as President Biden will be blamed for this the way Jimmy Carter was blamed for helicopters and intelligence failing in Iran.

my son is a rock hound who tells me there is a thriving gem business going on over there. many of our troops are doing it.
it's a great region for stones. and after there is a bomb, many are just tossed about.
villagers come out after blasts to sort through the debris.
he says sometimes the heat of the blast changes the stones, usually burning out impurities.
i have no idea how true this is. the kid reads some strange shit.
but he did buy some of these stones. forget the name, but it has traces of petroleum in it.
they were going for pretty good money on ebay.
Last I heard, mopinko's son was on the lam, a fugitive from justice but now he pokes his head up to babble some nonsense about a new class of metamorphic rock. The kid reads some strange shit, has some strange notions. I think it would be a good idea for Mineral Man to take this mixed up young kid under his wing--set his feet on the right path.
