More states are making porch piracy a felony
Is this a good thing or bad?
Leave it to DU to debate whether stealing property from private property is a serious crimeI mean, I know they're just considering what will happen when they get caught swiping things from their neighbors...

2. While it irritates me no end, how can they make it a felony if value of items stolen are minimal?
Most states classify felony theft as >$2,000. I can absolutely state that I've never had something dropped off valued more than a few hundred dollars and most of those required a signature.
I would be interested to know the mean and median value of such thefts.
I do think these thefts need to be prosecuted, though. Absolutely.
If I hold a gun to your head and it isn't loaded, should I get a pass on attempted murder? I know the mean and median of your IQ...it isn't impressive.

59. Put Them On Work Farms
Instead of prison. Plant trees. Grow food. No 3 hots and a cot.
Ha. Then you get all pissy when you hear inmates are made to work. Pick a side, moron.

41. The "Lock Her Up" mentality plays right into the hands of RWers who profit off the prison system.
There has to be a better way than ruining lives for an Amazon pkg.
There ya go. Let's go easy on people who trespass to steal.

A porch pirate says what?

58. Bad...it a minor even it is an annoying crime...why don't we just give everyone a felony....
Let's start with the person in your avatar.
So not only do they think it's just fine to shoplift, and to loot (because those stores are run by The Man, who "owes" them), but they think it's pretty much ok to walk onto someone's property and walk off with property.
In sum: whatever they want, they are entitled to have.
Wow.
