Help for a dumb girl....PLEASE
« on: August 28, 2008, 12:43:05 PM »
Allright..... I know just enough about football to get me...... nothing.

So I need help from you experts....I saw a commercial for "ESPN Game Plan" through DirecTV (which we have).  I just read the info on their website, and I'm still lost.

Has anybody here had this before, or plan to get it this year?  I was thinking of ordering it for the husband, but not if it is a rip off.  He's a college football junkie.

Anyone?   Anyone?      :???:

I have DirecTV ESPN Game Plan and have for a least 5 years now.

It's pretty good, but so many of the good games are also on the networks, the ESPN's, and the Fox Sports Channels that the one's you get on gameplan are often already something you would get on one of the others.

If he's a hardcore college football junkie he'll love it.  If not, let him try it for a year to see if he likes it.

Any other questions, ask away.

Thanks!!!!

Just one question:  does the subscription to the Gameplan cause any blackouts you wouldn't otherwise get?

Sometimes.

There'll be times where if the game is being shown on ESPN (for example), it'll be blacked-out on Gameplan, too.  I can't recall any times where a game was blacked-out in the area where gameplan wasn't, but it could have and I just don't remember.

A few years ago gameplan was better in that you'd get several games you wouldn't normally get on one of the other networks.  Now, there's so many games being shown that it's much different.  They advertise something like "14 college football games per week on Gameplan," but most weeks you could get 12 of those on just regular network, ESPN, or FoxSports with the other two being games like Ohio vs. Central Michigan and Utah State vs. Idaho (yawn).

It is good for out of region games. Such as, if I wanted to watch a game in Big 12 country and I was currently located in Virginia, let's say, I could use Game Plan to see a KU vs. OU matchup or NU vs. MU. It also good for watching PAC 10 and MWC games which aren't usually covered by ABC, CBS and ESPN, whom usually prefer to cover Big 10, Big East, ACC and SEC games.

I would agree, but I've been picking up the major Big 12 and PAC 10 games on FoxSports over the past 3 years or so.  The two games I do pick up here in NC that I wouldn't normally get anywhere is the Texas-OU game and the USC-UCLA game which, for some reason, the local affiliates always substitute a different game.

Best thing I like about it is all the games are right there together in the "700" section of the channels, so instead of bouncing around to the local network channels, and 206 and 209, and all the various Fox stations in the 600's and TBN network, you can just flip through most of them in one place.
