So.....to placate Michigan when Ohio was awarded the Toledo strip, the upper peninsula, or most of it, was detached from the territory of Wisconsin and given to Michigan.....in the future depriving Wisconsin of great mineral wealth.
It's nice coming from a state where history didn't begin until 1867.
