Rest In Peace Baby...
« on: August 27, 2008, 03:38:02 PM »

In almost 13 years you survived 2 toddlers, 3 kittens, the big move home from Korea and kept us safe from all the things that went bump in the night.

May the squirrels be fat and slow, may the sun always shine on your nap place and may you finally be free of the pain.

I love you Maggie.

So sad, I remember you worrying that she wouldn't make it through the winter. She must have been a real tough character to make it all the way to August.  :(

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

As I sit here and pet my 13-year-old poodle, I can only cry.  Again.  I don't know why God gave us these blessed friends who have lives so short, but there must be a reason.  Maybe it is so we can love more of them.

When I lost my Mickey, my cocker, on Mother's day 1994, I didn't ever want to even think about giving my heart to another dog.  Mickey wasn't just a dog.  He was another one of our kids.  He was smarter than two of them.

Then in January 1995 a friend of ours offered us our poodle Luke.  I couldn't resist.  He was all black and the runt of the bunch.  I had never considered owning a poodle.  He won my heart before the sun went down.

Today, Luke is deaf.  He has been ran over by a car.  He once ran away and turned himself in at the county office.  Luke was almost as easy to train as Mickey.  I love him.  He loves me.  I don't care I have to go wake him up when it is time to go to bed.  Right now, I can't imagine life without him.  I'll have to sooner or later.  What a sad day.

I'm so sorry about Maggie.  God Bless her pure heart.  This sort of thing just kills me.

She went gently.

A last walk in the sun down to the clinic and she went to sleep.

I couldn't be there. I just couldn't.

I would have tried to make them stop.

My dogs were outside during this time.  Luke barks to go out and barks to come in.  The treats they get is the reason they go out and the reason they want to come back in.

After reading this about Maggie, I picked Luke up and hugged him.  He was not responsive.  He wanted his treat, dammit!

Gotta love a dog!  By the way, since Luke went deaf, he and I have worked out a sign language.  He knows

We have been glomming onto her tha last few days and hugging and kissing her.

She was not a cuddly dog and for the last few days she just looked like we were pissing her off, lol.

I have always felt the same way.  I love dogs like nobodies business and hate to hear of one dying.

I too...have tears in my eyes.....

We had 2 cats that I got as kittens....one was 15 when she died, the other was 19....it broke my heart. They were a part of our family. They grew up with my children....the kids left....the girls were still here. They were such a comfort.

I had originally gone to Adopt a Pet looking for a companion for Sabrina as she was deaf and I worried about her. The pet adoption place wouldn't even talk to me, because I "was a cruel and evil person for planning on removing their front claws"....after I not so politely said bite me and left I went to the pet store that had an area of cats and dogs from the county shelter and talked to them. They didn't have any female kittens. Said they would keep me on the list.

The week after Sabrina was gone....she went into massive kidney failure...there was nothing we could do....except cry, the guy at the pet store called and told me they had one for me....I cried as I told him about Sabrina. He said he would look for 2 sisters for me. I didn't know if I was ready for another one. A couple of days later.....he left a message on my cell, that they had had 3 females come in with their 3 brothers and mother. Did I want to come look? I called my honey and said what do I do....he said go look.

I got there just after the pet area had closed. There in the window were the cutest babies and their momma. Four black and white short haired like their momma and 2 all black long haired. I knelt on the floor against the window where their huge cage was with tears in my eyes. They were so cute as only kittens can be.

This voice asked me.....are you Debbie? I turned, and here was the girl who had forgotten her phone inside with the animals and she said ....do you want to look at the kittens? What was I going to say? No? She unlocked the door and we went into the room and the kittens were falling all over themselves. I fell in love immediately. But what to do? There were 3 females .....which one would be left out?

My sweet of heart was on a fishing trip in Key West....and I needed to make a decision. I tried to call him and he answered and he wanted to know what I thought of the kittens. After telling him about each one....I asked which one do I leave? He said take all 3!

We had to wait 2 weeks for them to get up to 1.5 pounds each so they could be spayed. Skyy, Bailey and Cocoa Puff are now 3.5. We had given my daughter 2 rescued kittens that Christmas. When my daughter moved home the following fall, she them with her....when she left ....they stayed. We kept Jasmine and a friend of my son's who babysat the girls last Christmas while we were gone....took Jaz's sister, Cleo when she left. Cleo is much happier being an only cat, and the girls are much happier with them gone.

We now have 4 cats that are all under 4 years old....and I can't imagine not having them run around. My sweetheart...the former "cat hater" ...refers to himself as "Daddy" when he talks to them. Who'd a thunk it?

Animals bring such peace to their owners....comfort when we're tired, stressed or ill. They seem to know just the time to come up for a head pet or a lick on the hand or the cheek.

I only hope they somehow understand how dear they are to us and we provide as much to them as they to us.

They can never be replaced.....but there's always room in our hearts for new family.

ASDF.....hugs to you and yours as you mourn your beloved Maggie......<<<<hugs>>>>

I think you know of the loss of my beloved kitty Musica who owned my for 25 years. I still mourn and she has been gone for a year.

I really empathize, asdf and pray for comfort fo you.

Take heart that someday you will be together again -- 'cause if our beloved furry friends and family aren't in Hevean when we get there, I don't want to go!

I'm so sorry for your loss, asdf! *hugs*

I did the same with my family's dog, Lucky.  Back when I lived in Louisiana (1998), my mom, sister and I went to the E-Vet clinic, knowing her cancer had returned and was not curable this time around (she had cancer on and off since she was 6 years old).   I couldn't go into that room where the vet, mom, sis and Lucky were.  I just couldn't watch, though I knew she was better off this way.  I just paced around in the waiting room, too upset to even sit down.    After it was done, they placed Lucky in a box, and put that in my mom's car.  Sis followed in the Dakota, and didn't want me riding with her (she wanted to be alone), but I didn't even want to be in the same car as Lucky's body.  Just too hard to deal with at that time..  :( :bawl:

Aww asdf, I am soo sorry. We only had to find a good home for one of our dogs when we left Arizona(my mil wouldn't let us bring both for the short time we stayed in her home :bawl:). We both cried our eyes out as we pulled away from her new owner's home with her staying there. We checked on her for a few months, but then decided it was unfair to keep intruding on the new owner's life and let her go when we knew she was well taken care of. It's never easy  no matter how you have to part with them. You get very attached. Again, so sorry my friend.

Thanks guys.

Seriously.

We had to pick up her dishes tonight and after dinner we were all looking at each other and trying not to cry.
After every meal we would put the serving plate or dish down and she got to lick it clean.

She would always sit about 6 feet from the table and wait for her turn after the rest of the pack was done eating.

She was a good family member here.
