Blaze destroys barn, results in rabbit deaths
The Ottawa Citizen
Published: Thursday, August 14, 2008

A fire ravaged a barn housing rabbits in Ottawa's south end late Tuesday night and early yesterday morning. Firefighters were called to 2118 Eighth Line Rd., south of Metcalfe, around 11:50 p.m. The barn was engulfed in flames upon arrival and 2,500 rabbits were lost in the blaze. The barn was also destroyed, with damage to the building estimated at $70,000. There is no estimate yet for damage to the livestock. Fourteen fire vehicles and about 50 firefighters were needed to douse the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire remains under investigation, but arson has been ruled out.
