I consider it a mental illness
Ex-military and retired military who recieve thousands of dollars per month in government benefits and cash who rail against "government handouts" and "socialism".

Don't get me wrong. I do not begrudge their receiving this. I realize the sacrifices they have made.

I do begrudge the utter hypocrisy, the lack of self awareness, and the overall racist-tinged hubris they display as if only they are worthy.

I have first hand experience.
Both my son in-laws are like this sadly.

The difference is they earned it.

1. You described my in-laws.

Except they do it all while being SBC missionaries and making sure everyone in the area knows how righteous they are.

3. I have a retired AF friend who says

Tri-Care is the best med insurance ever but is convinced the government can’t manage health care. The stupid hurts.

8. A relative of a relative, a young man, was killed in Iraq we were looking at his Facebook page and he and his friends were commenting about kicking the asses of the sand n*******rs there. We are to lionize them, but some of them are, like any other large group, deplorable and one wonders what America they are "defending." This fellow did "give his life for his country protecting us" and yet he was not so honorable as the stereotype insists.

Yes. Autocracy is spread into our communities by retired officers who think that we should all yield to their authority because they served as officers in the military. I am not going to apply this penchant to all of them. Just the ones that think they can take over community leadership positions and that no one has the right to question their decisions.

It's an easy model that reinforces disparity in a community because they don't bother to get to learn their legal obligations. Instead, they social network with others like them. IMO, this is reinforcing a modern day segregation in white suburban communites - or, white flight neighborhoods.

:thatsright:  You claim they foster a us vs them mentality... yet you are the one doing it.

24. Double dippers, and triple dippers.

People who retired from the military, then took a government job, retired from that, then a third job, perhaps with a different level of government.

I've known too many of them, and they are the very first to rail against welfare cheats and why other people don't deserve medical care that doesn't bankrupt them.

Instead of the relatively generous pensions Senators and Representatives have, they should all be switched over to Social Security. And have a 401k that has a three percent match and let them save their own money for retirement. After all, they earn well above the median paycheck in this country. And I don't know if they get some sort of federally subsidized health care in retirement, but they should be on Medicare like the rest of us. Buy a supplemental policy as needed. Be unable to afford their insulin. Just like too many of us.

because they didn't do anything illegal and think those that do should GTFU...

Pension[edit]
The Secretary of the Treasury pays a taxable pension to the president. Former presidents receive a pension equal to the pay that the head of an executive department (Executive Level I) would be paid; as of 2017, it is $207,800 per year.[4] The pension begins immediately after a president's departure from office.[5] A former president's spouse may also be paid a lifetime annual pension of $20,000 if they relinquish any other statutory pension.

I demand 200 grand/year since that's what we pay ex presidents.  On second thought maybe not, seeing how I was never president.

OH FFS, suck a wet greasy turd out of my hairy asshole.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Anyone who serves in the military deserve benefits from the government. They earned it. Huge difference.
