Former White House chief strategist and Breitbart executive Steve Bannon told CBS News’ Charlie Rose that groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, and Neo-Confederates have “no room in American politics” in a preview of his “60 Minutes” interview, set to air Sunday.

Bannon also defended President Trump’s message on keeping confederate monuments. “Where does this end?” Bannon asked, echoing Trump’s public remarks. “Does it end in taking down the Washington monument?”

“Does it end in taking down the Washington monument? Does it end in taking down Mount Rushmore? Does it end in taking Churchill’s bust out of the Oval Office?” he asked.

Steve Bannon: Gary Cohn Should Have Resigned over Charlottesville

Former White House strategist Stephen K. Bannon challenged his former colleagues in the White House for signaling opposition to President Donald Trump’s response to the protests in Charlottesville, saying that they should have resigned if they didn’t agree with the president.

“If you’re going to break with him resign. The stuff that was leaked out that week by certain members of the White House, I thought that was unacceptable,” Bannon told CBS anchor Charlie Rose in an interview.

Bannon called out Cohn by name.

I’m obviously talking about Gary Cohn and some other people,” he said. “If you don’t like what he’s doing and you don’t agree with it, you have an obligation to resign.”

When Rose asked Bannon if Cohn should have resigned, Bannon replied, “Absolutely.”

Bannon said Trump was supporting the “normal course of the First Amendment” and not white supremacists adding that there was “no room in American society” for neo-Nazis and neo-confederates and the KKK in American society.

'Shut up' and 'go away': White House aides are already tired of hearing from Steve Bannon as the former chief strategist gives major interview to '60 Minutes' – part of the media he used to attack as the 'opposition party'

The 63-year-old now finds himself on the outside looking in, forced out of the Trump administration by a new guard that is squeezing out chaos in favor of regular order.

Yet his relevance as the father of Trump's brand of 'economic nationalism' has him clinging to Trump's legacy and has the news media unable to look away.

Politico ranked him #1 this week in its annual survey of the most relevant political voices in America.
