I like to think of it as preemptive tombstoning.

A word or two before I go.
Democratic Underground is my web home. I do not post anything anywhere else. I do not have the time to comb though the internet for those tidbits of info that the MSM ignore or bury. Thank god for the hard working people here who do it for me.
These are the people who have endured years of open ridicule to try opening a few eyes to the terrible things done behind our backs and in plain sight that are slowly killing everything our country is supposed to stand for.
I have only been around here for about a year and it has been an education that will last me a lifetime. I have read great books that I would have never heard of otherwise. "The Shock Doctrine" will be on my shelf forever.
I came to know for certain what I had always suspected, That our leaders are not true Americans but corporate whores for hire.
I gained new resolve in my beliefs in what America should be.
I learned that our election system is an incredibly unfunny joke.
I became a much better typist, and writer.
I learned more about the process of our government at work than I had from 12 years of public school.
The main lesson that I have gained from my year on DU is that participating in the political life of our country in even this small and insignificant way is an enriching experience that has made me a better citizen and a better man.
I am at a bad time in my life right now, I have been laid off two weeks now and the construction trade is almost non-existent at the moment. There is a very real possibility that I may not be able to afford an internet connection for much longer.
I will continue to read all of your wonderful posts and even put in my two cents every now and then but there may soon come a day when economic necessity with force me to go back to getting my news from the TV. But I will never, ever again take anything they say as the unvarnished truth.
I am not gone yet but if anything I have ever said made anyone think or just laugh it will have been time well spent. God knows you have made me think and laugh and cry out in anger at the world as it is. And I have hope that as long as there are people such as you in the world that maybe things might turn out for the better.
well...a sort of goodbye...

2. AC, hard times BUT they will get better...
I have nothing but the UTMOST confidence that the American people will NOT sign their own death warrant by electing McCain.
If they do, I'm heading for Rotterdam!
sure sure...

12. DU has been one of my better addictions in life.
Sometimes people here can really piss me off. But it's a good kind of pissed-off.
Let's hope life looks up for you (and the rest of America) soon.
one wonders if addictions and DU don't go hand in hand...

16. get rid of the tv first.
you're going to need your computer for more than the news. even for more than DU. i can't speak for anyone else, but i'm on my 4th job in 4 years (that sounds worse than it is actually), and i got them all through Craigslist.
at any rate best of luck to you.
you can burn books for fuel too...

20. What a beautifully reflective post, angrycarpenter.
I wish you all of the luck in the world.
Tom...That was thoughtful of you. Is that really your drunken girlfriend posting again?
