Two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are moving to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller's job, putting forth new legislation that aims to ensure the integrity of current and future independent investigations.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware plan to introduce the legislation Thursday. The bill would allow any special counsel for the Department of Justice to challenge his or her removal in court, with a review by a three-judge panel within 14 days of the challenge.

The bill would apply retroactively to May 17, 2017 — the day Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to investigate allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible ties between Russia and Donald Trump's campaign.

"It is critical that special counsels have the independence and resources they need to lead investigations," Tillis said in a statement. "A back-end judicial review process to prevent unmerited removals of special counsels not only helps to ensure their investigatory independence, but also reaffirms our nation's system of check and balances."

MUELLER CROSSES RED LINE=> Probe Expands to Possible Financial Crimes Unrelated to Russia

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has crossed the red line that President Trump warned about back in an interview with the New York Times. Since investigators can’t find any ‘Russian collusion’, Mueller has now expanded his probe into potential ‘financial crimes’ completely unrelated to Russia and the 2016 election.

The Deep State is attempting a coup right before our eyes. Mueller needs to be fired immediately.

Lots of news in this piece, including that Carter Page has been under FISA warrant since 2014. Much earlier than previously thought. https://t.co/iV2UkIsBXc

There's really no chance this could get out of committee, get docketed for a debate and floor vote, get introduced in the House, get out of committee, and get voted there in this Congressional session and its remaining days...and even then Trump could just veto it or just not sign it and thereby use a pocket veto.

#NeverTrump Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) is pushing back hard against President Trump something he never did with Socialist Barack Obama

#NeverTrump Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) is pushing back hard against President Trump something he never did with Socialist Barack Obama.

Last week Tillis and Senator Coons from Delaware proposed legislation to prevent President Trump from firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller from the Russia witch hunt.

Senator Tillis bragged about his anti-Trump moves on FOX News Sunday.

Senator Tillis: Well I think actually maybe the Republicans should get some credit for showing some independence and not necessarily deferring to a White House that happens to share their party.
