US and its allies fly bomber jets over Korean Peninsula to send message

The U.S. and its allies are prepared to use “rapid, lethal and overwhelming force,” if necessary, against North Korea, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Forces warned Saturday night.

The statement from Gen. Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy, U.S. Pacific Air Forces commander, came after the militaries of the U.S., South Korea and Japan spent 10 hours conducting bomber-jet drills over the Korean Peninsula.

“Diplomacy remains the lead,” he said. “However, we have a responsibility to our allies and our nation to showcase our unwavering commitment while planning for the worst-case scenario.

“If called upon,” he added, “we are ready to respond with rapid, lethal and overwhelming force at a time and place of our choosing.”

North Korea conducted test launches of ICBMs on July 3 and July 28, and has claimed that its weapons can now reach the U.S. mainland.

The country’s recent actions have drawn condemnation from President Trump, and prompted U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to confer with counterparts from South Korea and Japan to develop a response, Fox News has reported.

So ... the U.S. and "its allies" South Korea and Japan can defeat N.K., China, Russia, Iran, and a whole host of other nations with just a few airplanes?

No way.  And we have no more allies willing to take on WWIII, which absolutely would be a fight to the death down to the last woman and child.  South Korea is not even willing to do this.

This would escalate to thermonuclear warfare within a week, if that long.

Stop the chicken little shit.  Yes the US can defeat NK, and where do you get it would be just a few planes?  Showing strength with a display of some B-1B's and Japanese and SK fighters is nothing more than a show.  How many F-18's are sitting just off the coast?  How many F-15 and F-16's are sitting just a few miles from the DMZ?  why do you believe that China would do a damn thing, much less Russia?

Trump 'disappointed' China not doing more to stop North Korean aggression, hints at coming solution

President Trump tweeted on Saturday that he is "disappointed" in China for not doing more to curb North Korea's missile program, just a day after the country test launched a second intercontinental ballistic missile that experts fear could be capable of reaching the mainland United States.

Trump has repeatedly pressured China to do more to stymie North Korean aggression, but has also repeatedly acknowledged that China's efforts have been insufficient thus far. His tweets Saturday echo the words of his secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, who on Friday said both China and Russia are "principal economic enablers of North Korea's nuclear weapon and ballistic missile development program."

Meh.  What the Hell is else he going to say?  The military leadership will always say they're 'Prepared to use overwhelming force' wherever they're told to do it, even when there is no real chance they'll have to do it and the capability is doubtful at best, and there is no political direction about the need to do so being imminent.  The only kind of truly 'Overwhelming force' we could really use on them logistically is a nuke, since we don't speak for the ROK forces or the JSDF and don't have 'Overwhelming' conventional forces available ourselves, and there is zero policy chance of that happening unless there is general thermonuclear war.

Yes, and that brings the scenario square back to the front lines of the Cold War, which we are not in yet, but could be depending on what ramifications there are going to be from China on possible trade sanctions and Russia on already implemented ones.

If not a real war, then a trade war.

Sorry, but China needs us much more than we need them economic wise.

What's your point?  Last I checked President Trump is the commander in chief and can give that lawful order.

US, Japan vow action against rogue North Korea after latest missile test

North Korea threat: Japan's Abe says he and Trump agree to take further action

Abe told reporters after the call that Trump pledged to “take all necessary measures to protect” Japan and that Abe praised his commitment to do so.

He also called on China and Russia to do more to stop Pyongyang.

“We have made consistent efforts to resolve the North Korean problem in a peaceful manner, but North Korea has ignored that entirely and escalated the situation in a one-sided way,” Abe said, according to Bloomberg. “The international community, starting with China and Russia, must take this obvious fact seriously and increase pressure.”

Stratcom Worried by Slow Pace of U.S. Nuclear Modernization

The commander in charge of American nuclear missiles, submarines, and bombers is concerned by the slow pace of modernizing aging U.S. weapons in the face of growing threats from China, Russia, and North Korea.

Stratcom commander Air Force Gen. John E. Hyten also said information warfare—the use of information operations, cyber, space, and other capabilities—is emerging as a form of strategic warfare.

"Information warfare in the future is the key to military dominance and control," Hyten told the Washington Free Beacon in an interview.

"The military that figures out how to control information will be the most powerful military on the planet," he said.

Trump Intel Chief: North Korea Learned From Libya War to “Never” Give Up Nukes

The media is now filled with headlines about North Korea’s missile test on Friday, which demonstrated that its ICBMs may be able to reach the continental U.S. What isn’t mentioned in any of these stories is how we got to this point — in particular, what Dan Coats, President Donald Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, explained last week at the Aspen Security Forum.

North Korea’s 33-year-old dictator Kim Jong-un is not crazy, said Coats. In fact, he has “some rationale backing his actions” regarding the country’s nuclear weapons. That rationale is the way the U.S. has demonstrated that North Korea must keep them to ensure “survival for his regime, survival for his country.”

Moreover, North Koreans and other countries can read, and so understand what America’s foreign policy elite has repeatedly explained why we want small countries to disarm. It’s not because we fear that they will use WMD in a first strike on us, since nations like North Korea understand that would immediately lead to their obliteration. Instead, our mandarins explicitly say the problem is that unconventional weapons help small countries deter us from attacking them.
