At this point it sounds like this is the only tumor and it's reasonably accessible. The dangers, obviously, are that it has spread (it is an aggressive cancer), to an inaccessible location. There are multiple excellent hospitals in Phoenix, and Bethesda Naval Hospital might be an option as well.

I've long wished for McCain's retirement by ballot box, but not by this means. I hope his treatment goes well and he recovers quickly.

4. Same as my friend in DC

She had the same surgery last week. McCain's career is over

Respectfully (for once), it sounds like there's a good chance mal is incorrect. If the tumor is the only one and accessible, The surgery could be done and McCain home in a week or two. And back in the Senate not long after.

Both MrS. SVPete and I have had brain tumors removed - both benign and both accessible. I think both of us were back at work within a month or two. A couple of my least favorite times of my life.

From what doctors are saying on Fox this morning, he's looking at 14 months or so.

The DUmmies are only being civil because they know McCain has become their ally in the anti-Trump movement.

Why would they not be civil?
He's been pretty much one of them since he lost the election.

If America were as it should be, McCain would be considered the far left.

After posting that I saw that the doctors are trying to decide between radiation and chemo therapies, suggesting that the cancer may be inoperable. IF all that is correct, for the good of his family, the people of AZ, and himself, he should resign very soon, so he could focus on his health and family, and so the Governor of AZ - whoever that is - could appoint a suitable replacement, so AZ is fully represented (I realize the Governor could be a D, etc., but this is beyond politics. Also, McCain's seat won't come up for reelection until 2022, and I see no point in McCain trying to stick it out, with a 14-months-left guesstimate.).

McCain was a PITA for Bush, and is shaping up to be the same for Trump. Putting it very nicely. John McC never got over being rejected by R voters in the 2000 primaries. Seeing his revenge bill, McCain-Feingold, struck down probably didn't go over well with him either.

So, yeah, DU-folk are responding differently than they would were this Ted Cruz or Ben Carson.

According to the link below, the Governor of Arizona is a Republican.

If John McCain makes what I believe would be the best decision - for the reasons posted above - that could be good for AZ.

That thread shows the continued hypocrisy of the primitives, During the 2008 election, they couldn't call him enough dirty names. Now, they're in this "How horrible! I disagree with him politically, but..." No, no, no. That's now how it works. You can't say nasty things about someone and then when they're dying come back with this "I might have disagreed...." lie. Better you just continue with the hatred of all things non-Democratic party by you little oafs.

I voted for him in 2008, but I wasn't happy about it. I truly regret I voted for him at all, I should have just refrained from voting. To me, him, Obama and Clinton were all worthless and dangerous to the Constitution, and they've all gone on to prove that belief to be true. McCain was more interested in receiving the praise of the left-wing media than doing what's right. Maybe Arizona will get a Senator who cares.

See, at least I'm honest about it. The primitives should try it sometime.

...

I voted McCain in 2008 (note the absence of the preposition, "for", it's not accidental) because I thought he'd be less awful than Obama. He probably would have been, but not good or great.

As for DU-folk, a double standard is the only unslippery standard they have.

Should the Gov need to replace him, seems like J. D. Hayworth was a pretty decent guy, though I haven't kept up with him the last several years.

http://heavy.com/news/2017/07/could-kelli-ward-replace-john-mccain-if-he-retires-replacement/

Quote
Kelli Ward might be a frontrunner for replacing Senator John McCain if he chooses to retire. Although Gov. Doug Ducey has not made any indication yet of who he might choose, her strong showing against McCain in the 2016 primary would likely make her a leading contender. McCain was just diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer. Tragically, the prognosis for this type of cancer is not good. It’s not known at this time if he plans to retire during his treatment or if he will continue serving in the Senate.

If he retires, his Senate vacancy in Arizona will be filled by a governor appointment rather than a special election. The governor must appoint someone from the same party, and that person will serve until the next statewide general election, which is November 6, 2018. The person who is elected to the Senate in 2018 will then hold the position until McCain’s term ends. McCain was just re-elected to his new six-year term in November 2016.

Many believe that Ward would be a strong contender for an appointment if McCain retires. She ran against McCain in the 2016 primary and got 39.2 percent of the vote. This is a strong showing against an incumbent who was running for his sixth term. This might make her a safe choice for Gov. Ducey, since he is up for re-election himself in 2018. She’s already signed up to run for election in 2018, but this time she will be running in the primary against Sen. Jeff Flake. So she’s definitely still interested in a Senate position.
