Is Cuba known for their art?
About 2 years ago I heard or read the most interesting thing about Cuban art -- specifically music.
It seems in all the years since 1959, Island Cubano music has taken one path and Americano (Miami) Cubano has taken another. And Anericans cannot STAND the native Island music.
For more than a few years starting in the 1990s, the biggest Cuban stars (their version of say, Elvis in his hayday or the Beatles in theirs) defected while on cultural exchange tours and ended up being busboys, waiters and car wash window guys.
I do like Gloria Estefan a lot but I have been curious about what Cuban music sounds like now.
It is an interesting cultural Darwinism laboratory.
