Consider this. The guy is from IL, not VA. That means he was sane enough to plan and carry out his trip. Sane enough to do the research to find an opportunity. Sane enough to find and get to the ball field. Sane enough to double-check that the guys practicing were his intended targets. I know the guy is dead, and there is no need to disprove an insanity defense. I'm just pointing out that the guy is closer to the Unabomber - sane but obsessed - than to Giffords' lunatic shooter.

They've taken down the page now, but I was able to scroll down through 2015 before it got swamped, and there was a pretty significant amount of anti-Hillary stuff on there, and he was pretty clearly pissed about the DNC cheating on Hillary's behalf. 

Apparently there's a James Hodgkinson out there who is more of the "rah-rah-all-Democrats" type, but that's a different account from James T. Hodgkinson.
