Oh my.

I went to this bonfire, to see if Doug's ex-wife or the subway cat, both of them experts on pharmaceuticals, were there, but alas no.  Just mostly unterprimitiven, the faceless lynch mob on Skins's island.

Anyone else have a Prednisone story?

I'm wondering if other DUers have had experience taking the drug Prednisone?

I started out on 20 mg daily for poison ivy. When the rash worsened, my doctor ordered the following course of Prednisone:

--80 mg for 4 days
--60 mg for 4 days
--40 mg for 4 days
--20 mg for 4 days

This drug is so powerful and my side effects are mind blowing. I've been off the drug for three days, but the withdrawals are horrendous as well. I feel intense rage--like, serial killer rage. My teeth hurt and they're bleeding. I feel like I have no lung capacity. A walk up the stairs leaves me heaving. My vision is cloudy.
I'm depressed and anxious, I feel completely psychotic. My joints ache, especially in my hip. I'm constantly hungry and I eat at least every two hours. I've got a big giant moon face and some kind of fat lump on my upper back/neck. I look like absolute hell.

I feel like I'm completely falling apart.

Has anyone experienced any of this with Prednisone before? How long does it take to return back to normal?

Any advice or how-to-detox resources would be most appreciated.

If there is a hell, I am guessing it feels like taking Prednisone.

Oh my.  As far as franksolich knows, Prednisone is for felines, not for primitives.

1. My kitteh Goldmine takes a pill of that every other day.

Two years ago, he started chewing on his belly a lot. The vet said it was an allergy, and gave me this to get him to (hopefully) stop chewing.

He still takes it to keep him from chewing, and I think he's growing back his fur (last I checked).

The drug makes him have to pee a little more than usual, but other than that, I think he's doing all right with it! (Knock wood!)

15. Kitty Katee took it daily also for asthma, but we took her off it and give it to her as needed...and she's doing fine with that.

23. One of my kittehs has been on and off of it for irritable bowel--

vet explained that cats respond well to it, without the serious side effects and required dosage tapering that humans need.

30. Kitty Frank takes it for that reason and seems to be doing fine.

29. My coworker has taken it for his HIV for many years.

He's been infected for over 25 years and has avoided taking the approved HIV meds, until recently, when he had to go through chemo.

He just returned from the International conference in Mexico and he met some researchers that want to develop a clinical trial based on his Prednisone use!

It's a big bonfire, as pharmaceutical bonfires on Skins's island usually are.

Those side effects seem are common, but sound very exaggerated.

Of course.

I've noticed there seems to be an overabundance of elastic on Skins's island today, and the primitives are gobbling it up cheaply, for their stretchies.

80 MG! I take it occasionally for arthritis flare ups but the dosage is .6 mg. It sounds like someone is telling a big story...

The dosage the DUmmie alludes to is common for the condition described, however the side effects at that dosage can also be quite severe.  This is the reason that the duration of the treatment is short......

I think the duration of the treatment will depend on the relative size and severity of the problem.

Back when he was a teenager, my eldest sone came home with a particularly bad case of poison ivy (over 3/4 of his body), and he was placed on this drug for about the same length of time as the DUmmie.....

I'm not a "medical doctor" (and I don't play one on TV), but have had three kids that were extremely allergic to poison ivy/oak/sumac, and have been down that road so many times that I'm glad they are grown up, and don't run around in the woods anymore.......

One of my prescriptions for sarcoidosis is prednisone. I started on 80mgs a day for six months, then a slow drop off to 10mgs a day. Took it for a year and then had six months off. I am currently taking 10mgs a day.

I was on Prednisone for over 10 ****ing years, shut up you stupid ass whiner.  Try 80 mg for six months, 60 mg for I can't tell you how many months then then up and down (depending on flares) trying to get me off this drug for 10 years.  Usually in 10 mg increments.  When I got down to 30 they let me go down 5 mg at a time but when I got down to 15 mg they only let me go down by 1 mg a month.

I have the bones of an 80 year old woman and will most likely get diabetes later in life because of it.

I'm one of the lucky few.  For some reason I could go rolling in the nude in a field of poison ivy and it wouldn't have any effect on me.

I've seen the rashes though, they can be nasty and tough to get rid of.

Same here never had it and have been it many times...no rash etc.  I even sat in it one time and only when I got up did I realize where I had been.  Was out golfing the other day in shorts and walked through some looking for my golf ball...again nothing.

I'm told that poison ivy/oak/sumac is an allergic reaction.....many have the allergy, but a fortunate few do not.......I too, could roll in the stuff all day, and never have a problem, but all three of our kids were very sensitive to it.....go figure.....
