Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify Tuesday in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee to answer accusations from former FBI Director James Comey.

"In light of reports regarding Mr. Comey's recent testimony before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, it is important that I have an opportunity to address these matters in the appropriate forum," Sessions wrote in a letter to Sen. Richard Shelby, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies.

Comey testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee in closed session that Sessions may have had a third, unreported meeting with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak. Sessions omitted information about meetings with Kislyak as a senator during his confirmation process, and following the ensuing controversy he recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Despite the recusal, Sessions was involved in the decision to fire Comey. Senators have questioned why Sessions was involved in Comey's dismissal since he recused himself from the Russia investigation and Comey was leading that investigation.

Sessions has been under siege in recent weeks after reports surfaced that President Trump remains furious over his decision to recuse himself from the investigation. Trump has repeatedly called the reports of Russian interference in the 2016 election a hoax that's been generated by Democrats to excuse their loss in the election.

Jeff Sessions faces second wave of perjury fever

A fresh volley of perjury claims against Attorney General Jeff Sessions have been tossed around by Democrats in the days following testimony by former FBI Director James Comey, in which he reportedly told senators about the possibility of yet another undisclosed meeting between Sessions and a Russian envoy.

Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., floated the prospect of perjury Friday during an interview on MSNBC.

A day earlier, after Comey testified both publicly and behind closed doors to the Senate Intelligence Committee about his private conversations with President Trump, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., also raised the possibility of perjury.

The American Civil Liberties Union sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee to look into possible perjury. However, Franken said this week the Judiciary Committee chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley, doesn't feel inclined to bring Sessions back in for testimony.

Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., who is vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, also sent a tweet in early March directed at Sessions: "Perjury is a felony and may be punishable by prison for up to five years."

On Saturday it was reported Sessions would forgo a hearing with the Senate Appropriations Committee in order to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday to in order to respond to Comey's claims. It's not clear if that hearing will be in a public setting.

There was no perjury, when the subject was intrinsically narrow in-regards to secret meetings to influence policy.

Look for the AG to let-scatter some good ol' country-lawyer buckshot at these swamp-geeks.

Things to know about Jeff Sessions on day of Senate hearing

WHAT'S THE TROUBLE?

Sessions has been dogged by the Russia investigation. He recused himself from the federal probe in March after acknowledging that he met twice last year with the Russian ambassador to the United States. He told lawmakers at his January confirmation hearing that he had not met with Russians during the campaign.

Questions are swirling about possible additional encounters with the ambassador, Sergey Kislyak. Senate Democrats have raised questions about whether the men met at an April 2016 foreign policy event at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. The Justice Department has said that while Sessions was there, for a speech by Trump, there were no meetings or private encounters.

It's a witch hunt

Pauken, Tom"I think [this hearing is] an attempt by Comey to get even because Sessions indicated that [he] shouldn't stay on [as FBI director]. And I think in his testimony Comey gratuitously included Sessions [who] is an honorable man. I think this is a witch hunt. This is ridiculous – and I wish the Republicans had more courage to put an end to it."

"[When Session recused himself], who would have thought that [the assistant AG] would, in a sense, throw Trump under the bus and call for a special prosecutor, which he did – and it's the worst possible choice: Mueller, who's a choice of Comey. I think Sessions didn't know that this would happen. So perhaps in retrospect he should have not recused himself, but I think it's too late at this point."

Tom Pauken, former chairman
Republican Party of Texas

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will be testifying before congress today and his former democrat colleagues have promised to tear him limb from limb.  Fired FBI Director James Comey previously testi-lied that it was his opinion Jeff Sessions was placed inside the U.S. Attorney Generals office to coordinate with Vladimir Putin.  Gottabe a spy, ohmygosh.

AG Jeff Sessions’ response will take place at approximately 2:30pm EDT today.   Tickets for the circus level fiasco are sold out and media are breathless with anticipation.

He made some statements that the dems asked questions about everything except the matter at hand. Then went on to make the dems look like the fools they are. :rotf:

Sessions calls suggestion he colluded with Russia a 'detestable lie'

The attorney general also denies that he had a third undisclosed meeting with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday forcefully denied he engaged in any collusion with Russian officials during the campaign, calling such a suggestion a “detestable lie,” while saying he did not recall having a third undisclosed meeting with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

"The suggestion that I participated in any collusion or that I was aware of any collusion with the Russian government to hurt this country, which I have served with honor for over 35 years, or to undermine the integrity of our democratic process, is an appalling and detestable lie,” Sessions said as he testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Sessions also pushed back against the idea that he had more meetings with Kislyak, after having been forced to clarify remarks from his confirmation hearing in January that he did not have communications with Russian officials during the campaign. Two previous meetings with Kisylak surfaced earlier this year, but Sessions said on Tuesday he doesn't remember any further encounters, including an allegation he met with Kislyak in April 2016 at the Mayflower Hotel, which hosted a foreign policy speech by Donald Trump.

"I did not have any private meetings nor do I recall any conversations with any Russian officials at the Mayflower Hotel," Sessions said.

Triple Stacked Nothingburger – Senator Tom Cotton Sums Up The Jeff Sessions Hearing

To deflect the Clinton’s embarrassing loss in the 2016 election, the necessary media narrative began as “Russia Hacked The Election“.

The media narrative evolved into a “Russia Trump Campaign Conspiracy”, which eventually morphed into the “Russian Trump Collusion” narrative that has now transmogrified into the “Russian Trump Obstruction Narrative“….

Senator Tom Cotton rises to reset the inquisition and point out the absurdity of it all:

Tom Cotton Slams Probe of Sessions, Russia as ‘Spy Fiction’

Republican Senator Tom Cotton mocked the allegations from the Democrats and the media that Attorney General Jeff Sessions colluded with the Russians during the 2016 presidential election.

The New York Post reported:

“Mr. Sessions, are you familiar with what spies call trade craft?” Cotton asked, prompting the attorney general to warily reply, “A little bit.”

“That involves things like covert communications and dead drops and brush passes, right? Do you like spy fiction? Do you like Jason Bourne or James Bond movies?” Cotton continued before slamming the probe.

“Have you ever, ever in any of these fantastical situations heard of a plot line so ridiculous that a sitting United States senator and an ambassador of a foreign government colluded at an open setting with hundreds of other people to pull off the greatest caper in the history of espionage?” he asked, prompting Sessions to laugh for the first time during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.

Tom Cotton Made A Correction During The Sessions Hearing That Should End The Collusion Debate Photo of Russ Read

They’re already moving more toward the obstruction argument, since they’ve been unable to show any collusion.

Via Daily Caller:

The Republican platform on supporting Ukraine against pro-Russian rebels was strengthened, not weakened, despite Democratic claims, Sen. Tom Cotton said Tuesday.

Cotton’s alleged correction came during Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ testimony before the Senate Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence regarding the Trump campaign’s connections to Russia.

“For the record, as stated earlier, the Republican platform was weakened on the point of arms for Ukraine. That’s incorrect,” the Arkansas senator said. “It was actually strengthened. I would add it was the Democratic president who refused requests to supply arms to Ukraine.”

Gingrich blasted congressional Republicans for not taking a page out of Sessions' book.

Newt Gingrich: Jeff Sessions 'clearly won' hearing

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich declared Attorney General Jeff Sessions the winner in Tuesday's hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

"I think he [Sessions] clearly won," Gingrich told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday evening. "I wish every Republican would look at the lesson that the Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave them today. He was passionate, he used strong language, he didn't back down, he had the facts, and he is prepared to go nose to nose with liberals every time they smeared him."

Gingrich blasted congressional Republicans for not taking a page out of Sessions' book.

He also lectured the party on mostly ignoring a request from Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who recently said Congress should look into whether former Attorney General Loretta Lynch obstructed justice by telling former FBI Director James Comey to refer to Hillary Clinton's email scandal as a "matter," not an investigation.

"I have heard nothing. This is typical. We allow the Left to set the agenda; we allow the Left to terms of the debate. We are passive, and I think that it's really a huge mistake to not take these people head-on," Gingrich added.

His approval for Sessions comes a day after he tweeted criticism for special counsel Robert Mueller because he selected people to join his team who have donated to Democrats.
