The Huffington Post‘s Sam Stein pushed Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) on her definition of collusion on Thursday’s “Morning Joe,” resulting in Waters having to admit that there is no evidence yet of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Waters was on “Morning Joe” to discuss why she feels President Trump needs to be impeached. Throughout the interview, Waters cited the possibility of
collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia as the reason why Trump needs to be impeached.
Stein asked Waters how she defines collusion, an answer that Waters struggled to give.
“I am talking about strategies that were developed working with the Trump campaign,” Waters told Stein. “I really do believe that
much of what you saw coming out of Trump’s mouth was a play from Putin’s playbook.”
Stein followed up by asking Waters if she believes that the Russian government developed the daily talking points for the Trump campaign.
“I think
there was a cooperation in developing strategy about how they could ensure that Hillary Clinton was not elected,” Waters replied.
Waters then told Stein that the Russian government wanted Trump to be elected so that Exxon Mobil can drill in Arctic.
It should be noted that Trump’s Treasury Department refused to give Exxon Mobil a special waiver to drill in the Arctic.
Stein asked Waters if there is any actual evidence yet that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, based on her definition.
“
No, [there] has not been,” Waters admitted.
