ah, I get it.  make voting as easy as possible, but only in obama strongholds.  oh, and while you're at it, make out-and-out
vote fraud impossible to even detect, much less prevent.  The BarackStar! had all of his competition (including the incumbent,
for heaven's sake) disqualified on the basis of "invalid" petition signatures in his state senate election, so this is no big deal for
him.

Ohio voting law may be a boon for Obama supporters

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio is considered a must-win state for both Barack Obama and John McCain. And the highpoint of the presidential campaign in the state could come a month before Election Day.

Ohio has created a window in the election calendar, from September 30th to October 6th, that allows residents to both register one minute and vote the next.

The voting window, so far, is only being implemented in some counties -- typically they are urban areas or those with college campuses. The move figures to benefit Obama and leading Republicans are crying foul. They're considering a lawsuit if it isn't applied all over the state.

Allowing voters to cast their ballots weeks before Election Day is a growing trend. More than a dozen states permit early voting, and more than two dozen provide an absentee ballot to any registered voter for any reason. The battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Nevada and New Mexico allow voters both options.

now doesn't this seem to fly in the face of several SCOTUS decisions, namely the ones that stopped the recounts in FL in 2000, and the recent one about the voter ID in IN?  i think it wouldn't last very long if the lawsuit was filed..

"The processes and the law and the systems in our 88 counties are not equipped to handle same-day registration."

People in Ohio can register without identification, but they have to show some sort of ID to vote.

Ohio has been a must-win state for presidential candidates during past cycles, but Obama advisers had been weighing a move to skip it. He lost 83 of 88 counties during his fierce primary campaign against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. Some Democrats privately fear the map in the general election against McCain will look very similar.

It has Ohio Republicans frustrated. Traditionally, young people make a lot of noise about elections and then stay home. If they don't actually have to turn up at the polls on Election Day, then they might take a greater interest.

the whole goal if this law appears to be to legitimize vote fraud. 

odd quirk about the law in ohio, that you don't need ID to register, but you need ID to vote.  what will you require if you do it all at the same time?

the SCOTUS decision that stopped the "count only the gore votes until gore wins the election" FL recount was a one-time only deal, if I recall correctly.  but I do think that this law could run afoul of the IN SCOTUS decision. 

but most of all, I'm not sure how they think they can change the law in some countries, but leave it alone in all the others, without the OH republican party challenging the shit out of it in court.

Sorry, but the state (and federal) supreme courts can (and should) rule this as a violation of 14th Amendment rights.  Period.
