Democratic Dream Team Needed

In 2020 we need to put our dream team on the roster. We need to go ALL-IN on our best and greatest.

President - Hillary Clinton
Vice President Al Gore

Then make a pact with the American people that if we win the senate, Bernie Sanders be placed as Senate President
If we win the house - Chelsey CLinton will be House Majority leader (she'll need to run of course, but she would win)

Finally - Promise that the next two supreme court justices will be Barack Obama, followed by Merrick Garland. If get a third opening (John Kerry)

This would be the greatest roster since the founding fathers, would correct at least 3 wrongs, and put one future great leader in play, and keep our greatest leader in play for the rest of his life.

This, my friends, is doable, and out would the death knell on the Republican party for a generation.

Well, .... they're so deep, they don't need her.   ::)

OK, three things are so astoundingly dumb in that one that they just beggar any possibility of being believed.

Chelsea as Speaker?  They're going to (1) find some district for her - with no local record or elective political experience - to run in, where everyone else will just get out of the way - that might barely be possible but a longshot at best - but then (2) Get the majority of an assumed Democrat majority in the House (51% of 218-plus Congresscritters)  to put aside all their own lifetime goal ambitions and vote in a completely-inexperienced freshman Representative who has done nothing whatsoever to earn the job. W T actual F?

As for John Kerry or even Obozo, neither one has any actual experience in trial practice beyond law school and a certain basic level of supporting work like writing briefs on cases.  It's completely delusional to think either one is even remotely qualified for a District Court appointment, let alone the Supreme Court.

The only thing in there that made any sense was re-nominating Merrick Garland, if he even remains interested five to ten years down the road.  A lot of opportunities that don't pan out become things where you move on and don't look back, and if they happen to come up again, it's a whole new choice, not an automatic yes.

Now as far as Manbearpig goes, all those sexual assault allegations from the massage parlors might be a teensy little problem, on top of the 'Rolling in hypocrisy' issue what with his 'Lifestyles of the rich and famous planet-savers' mansion.  On Hillary, she'll be lucky if she doesn't stroke out, the way things have been going for her physically; whatever undisclosed physical/neurological problems she has, and there is definitely something there, four to eight more years is NOT going to make it better.

Theoretically, the speaker of the house does not have to be a member of congress. Granted they all have been, but there is no constitutional nor house rule requiring it.

It would be interesting to know if a non-congressman elected as speaker would have a vote, though.

Nope. Only the 435 elected (or otherwise state-appointed) members of the House of Representatives. But the Speaker remains second in the PLOS.

Regardless, the Speaker—who has always been (but is not required to be) a House Member and has the same duties to his or her local constituents like the other 434 Members—is at the levers of power.

It was just last year or the year before when there was a little talk of making Colin Powell the speaker.  That's why I recalled the possibility and legality of it happening.

It was just last year or the year before when there was a little talk of making Colin Powell the speaker.  That's why I recalled the possibility and legality of it happening.

You're right, he (Among others) was discussed for that, but IIRC none of the people raising this particular recurring chestnut as a serious proposition were actually Representatives from the majority party, who are the only ones who get to vote on it.

Some demonrats and leftist RINOs liked the idea of putting Colin in there since he voted for Obama.
