16. I think that employers should have to pay living wages to all employees

I think that restaurants shouldn't be exempt from that.
The patrons shouldn't be expected to pay the wages of their employees so that they can pocket more profits.
That being said...I always tip well.
My anecdotal story is I was at a restaurant in Texarkana where the waiter spent most of his time at the table next to us talking to some nasty bigots about what a great president trump is and how great it was that the Mexicans who steal all of our wages and healthcare were going to be thrown out of the country and we were going to get our country back.
I had a response to that. I will leave it at that.

17. I don't disagree about restaurants

However, the system today is what it is and there's no need to punish a server. If you want to go out and not leave a tip, I suggest a place like McDonald's.

As for the political conversation-- talk to the manager.

I've had poor service at restaurants before, and a conversation with the manager resulted in a free round of drinks.

20. Did you miss where I said "I always tip well"?

and I don't talk to managers about poor service or politics.
I simply don't return to the establishment.
In the first post she said that she had a response to the Trump praising waiter and left it at that.  We are left to assume that she didn't leave a tip.  When called on it she claims that she always tips well, expecting us to believe that her response was that she simply won't return to the Texarkana restaurant.

Maybe I shouldn't assume.  When she says that she had a response and is going to leave it at that, it may have been that she went to the bathroom before she left the restaurant and plugged up the toilet--or did something even worse.  Passive aggressive shit smearing, something leftist shitgibbons have been known to do from time to time.

When a DUchebag denies it, you know it is true. This is the inverse of that time tested and proven SCIENTIFIC theorem.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Raise the minimum wage for know-nothing, no-motivation, slackers working fast food and restaurants and you'll see people starting earning the old minimum wage of $0 being unemployed when restaurants close.

I ran across this op and another that athena posted to earlier in the day.  Here is a link to the first thread which athena  posted on before going on to post this op: https://upload.democraticunderground.com/10028966265

I waited on Bernie Sanders in Burlington

After I graduated from college I moved to Burlington, VT for a year (UVM was my second choice) and I was a waitress on Church Street. Bernie Sanders was a patron one day with three other people - he paid the bill. He left me less than a 10% tip. So much for "Mr. Economic Justice". At least when it comes to women I suppose.

FYI, I am not saying this to be devisive (sp?) - I voted for him in the primary because I liked his message. However, the more I hear about him, the less impressed I am. I thought people should know what he is really like in person. He wasn't that nice.

As can be seen Smirk disparages (bitch slaps) Saint Bernard of Vermont, essentially calling him a cheapskate and all around no good-nick.  This then turns into a general discussion on tipping featuring a couple interesting posts and several 'name removed'

It is a fun companion piece to this op I suggest hopping on over to catch a gander.

Now my fav post on this thread was this one from Rockhead

10. The last time my wife and I went out,
our waitperson was uniquely great. She was off-handed, friendly, attentive and genuinely funny. We enjoyed ourselves a little more, thanks to her. When the check came, we doubled it, just because, agreeing simultaneously that a 100% tip was warranted. Then, we sneaked out before she returned to pick up the folder the check was in.

Don't tell anyone here on DU, but the restaurant was Olive Garden, of all things.

Surprise!

The part in bold is probably what actually happened, just the guest check, no cash or credit card .  They dined and dashed.   :whatever:

And one more interesting factoid.  On a web site in a galaxy far far away, a poster named 'athena' was one of NH Sparky's special friends.  She was a piece of work as the saying goes.  Without spending lots of time reviewing this 'athena's' post history I would say it could well be the same thesbian who use to give Sparky such a hard time.

14. Good grief. Why don't you get to know people around here before you start

casting aspersions?

Smirkymonkey is NOT anti-Semitic and she was VERY enthusiastic about Bernie for a long time.

Must've accused smirky monkey of saying the liver spotted old gentleman's cheapness had something to do with him being Jewish--too bad the post got disappeared.

39. Lots of otherwise nice people are thrifty-to-the-point-of-cheap. It has a lot to do with what you

learn in your earliest years.

But in the case of tipping, it can show a blind spot about other people. At least he has a strong intellectual understanding of how much other people need money -- unlike most everyone in the GOP.

Bernie has a blind spot that makes him cheap but he's good at giving away other people's money.

I've had good service at many places before, and a few honest sessions with both the owners and the help resulted in a whole lot more than free drinks.   Best to do when young as the heart just can't take too much fun.

Either bounce or it's leap frog.

Leaving spare change for the waitress/waiter is not "tipping well" you demented feline lover.

As for the living wage bullshit... the cooks are the ones that get screwed. Good waitresses/waiters can make some serious coin. Yes they get screwed on slow nights but the busy nights more than make up for it.  Especially if they are good looking and have an outgoing personality.  The cooks? They slave in hot, greasy conditions for the same wage whether they do good or not.

I wonder if smirkypooflinger has considered the possibility that she got a 10% tip because she's a starry-eyed moonbat who sucks at her waitressing job at some greasy spoon in Burlington.

You all assume she was able to correctly calculate the tip she got.

Excellent point.  Waitresses often only write the order, the cashier or someone else usually tabulates things now a days.   I would bet most couldn't correctly answer 15% of $50 in their head if their life depended on it.
