Sen. Landrieu's name removed from Obama fundraiser
« on: August 12, 2008, 03:50:11 PM »

this is the first time I have heard of a down-ticket candidate being afraid that The BarackStar! would
hurt them . . . even if it is Louisiana.  I thought Obama was going to put the entire south "into play"? :whatever:

Sen. Landrieu's name removed from Obama fundraiser

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu, who faces a tough re-election, has had her name removed from a fundraiser announcement for presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Landrieu will attend the "Lipstick, Laughter and Libations" fundraiser for Barack Obama at a Washington restaurant next week, but she won't help host it.

Landrieu's campaign said her name only was added to the online announcement of the fundraiser on Obama's Web site as a mistake. Her Republican opponent's campaign said she is trying to keep her distance from her party's presidential candidate and removed her name after they pointed it out.

"She was never scheduled to host," said Landrieu campaign spokesman Scott Schneider. "She is attending, and there was some sort of clerical error in which somebody said she was hosting, but she is not."

A spokesman for Landrieu's GOP opponent, John Kennedy, said he believes the senator removed her name because she doesn't want to be too closely connected with Obama in Louisiana, which has trended Republican in federal elections.

I think she is in deep do do. It is a shame the Repubs put up a weak candidate like Kennedy. He has been running ads attacking on her deciding vote against production of oil shale in the mountain states. White Repubs and Democrats in this state, do not like a liberal politician, Harry Reid, telling our senator how to vote on an issue.

Oil is a touchy subject in Louisiana.  It has been since Standard Oil relocated to New Jersey many moons ago.  The oil bust of the late 1980's was particularly hard on northern Louisiana.

The folks in that state are not fond of energy shenanigans and political tricks.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

congresscritters have been sweating the pres coattails for a year, HRC or BHO.
My fellow Americans, there is nothing audacious about hope. Hope is what makes people buy lottery tickets instead of paying the bills. Hope is for the old gals feeding the slots in Atlantic City. It destroys the inner-city kid who quits school because he hopes he'll be a world-famous recording artist.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?

One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy.

The other kills her own food.

he isn't a particularly strong candidate.  in fact, he was a democrat a year ago.

He was the Secretary of the Dept. of Revenue prior to becoming Treasurer. One of my main complaints was that past Secretaries had terrible promotion policies. He assured me that would change. Nothing changed and it was the status quo same old same old. His big claim to fame was unclaimed property (money) that the state was holding totaling millions of dollars that taxpayers were due if they applied for it. You can go on line to see if any of that hidden treasure is yours. I looked my brother's name up and found that the mortgage company had overcharged him when he sold his house. That money was turned back into the state's unclaimed property fund.

As Treasurer, he wanted to sell the tobacco settlement money for a lump sum rather than get yearly payments from the tobacco companies. That was a stupid idea and was shot down by the legislature.

On the far end of The French Quarter, there is a hot bed for lesbos & homos.

The best part of the French Quarter is toward the river and the French market/Riverwalk area in my opinion. Go to two blocks north (away from the river) from Bourbon Street and you are asking for big trouble. You will see some characters sitting on their doorsteps that look like they would slit your throat for a ten spot. The police are good about rousting the undesirables out of where the tourist go but you still have to be careful.
