I did something similar to what this family member in the story below did, but mine was not intended as a fib. It was during our Fitzmas, when Keith's featured reporter (I'll find his name) David SHUSTER, kept "reporting" that his sources, afterwards revealed to be "attorneys experienced with grand juries" (not anybody with first hand knowledge of the real grand jury), were telling him that KKKarl was going to be indicted in two weeks. So the "sources" were in actuality *pundits* not sources.

My elder sister had reached her own realization that her breast cancer was terminal. For decades our main topic of conversation had been about the latest dastardly thing the Repukes had done. This time, her eyes semi-closed, she said, "(My name), I don't want to talk about politics any more."

Believing in Fitzmas back then as many of us DUers did (that is, not thinking it was a fib), I said, "Oh, yeah? Well, the news this morning is that ROVE will be indicted in two weeks." Her eyes *SHOT* open, and she pierced me with the fire of life in her eyes.

That's gotta get mixed reception on DU. On one hand there's the core :bouncy: , very appealing to DU-folks' confirmation bias. OTOH "UTUSN" invoked the Fitzmas embarrassment - another instance of DU-folks' confirmation bias overriding whatever sense some of them might have - and the story is from The EEEEEEEEEEEE-vile New York Post (GRRRRRRRR!).

I read the story at the NY Post link.  Did it actually happen?  Beats me.  If it did and it made the poor dying guy feel better, more power to the family.  I would have done the same thing.  Sounds like the famiily is a bunch of dummies though... and dummies lie.

Question: since this made the news, does this mean the next time some leftist tries this cute mind trick on a moribund relative, it won't work?

Also, it's too bad for the deceased. For all we know, he's looking on from the afterlife, wondering why his relatives would tell him such a cruel lie on his deathbed.  :p
