if we are lucky, once in our lifetime someone trancends politics as usual and has integrity and a scope of the bigger picture.

Someone who truly loves America and is looking out for EVERY ONE and not just lobbyist and where the money is.

Someone who inspires hope and brings out the best in people.

Someone who looks out for the collective whole and not the individual

This someone in My lifetime I believe is Obama

Alas, I cannot share your optimism that Barack Obama is just a guy who loves America and wants to look out for everybody. Can't do it anymore. I'm 49; I've lived through JFK, RFK, MLK, Reagan, two Bushes, a Clinton who turned out not to be so Clinton-y...as historical figures, they've all turned out to have had some serious "character flaws" which continue to bring down otherwise good candidates every election cycle.

Don't get your knickers in a twist; I'm 100% behind BO (or maybe 99%, since I'm hedging in this very post), but I'm not 100% behind the idea that he's not being guided from somewhere else. I no longer believe it is possible to be elected President of the United States unless you've been seriously vetted by the people who already run the government and will continue to do so long after each successive president leaves office.

The dark cynic in me says Obama is a good healing/leadership figure at a time when the country desperately needs one, and he will do some great things to help revive the American brand, but he's not doing it out of altruism. He might have been an altruist at one time, but he's tasted the blood. He's got it in him now. Ultimately, like all the rest, he'll answer to the old-timers and families who control everything out of shear financial might. He won't have a choice. None of them did.
