nolabear (24,580 posts)Support thread for Senator Jeff Merkley. Holding the floor all night. He plans to hold the senate floor all night in opposition to Gorsuch. He's in hour three. Let's show some love!
dchill (13,322 posts) 4. He's not my Senator, but I'm extremely proud of his courage...and moral authority. Is it too much to hope that a few Republicans will get the gravity of their imminent actions and vote against "going nuclear" AND against Gorsuch?
dubyadiprecession (1,582 posts) 7. Senator Merkley deserves our support as history will tell, he is on the right side of it.As usual, the gop prides itself as a pig wallowing in shit!
notdarkyet (419 posts) 32. Thank you for fighting the good fight, less the people fall into depression and despair, withoutChampions who have power take a stand. You are speaking for millions.
Norbert9 (295 posts) 35. So does anyone know what happens?Does at least one repuke have to be present all night too or what? I'm sure most of them slither off. Hats off to Senator Merkley.
Amaryllis (5,204 posts) 93. Go to his website to sign his petition saying you stand with him in the filibuster:
WyLoochka (1,387 posts) 105. C'mon the rest of you DemsGet down there and help Sen Merkley #holdthefloor - as long as it takes. Don't change the rules - Change the nominee. If he can't get 60 votes he failed the test. Next.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028893497 Hey DUmmies, FYI- McConnell filed the cloture motion yesterday. The opportunity for a speaking filibuster has passed under the rules. Right now, anytime McConnell wants the floor back for the cloture vote he gets it back. This "filibuster" is just bluster.
What goes up must come down Spinnin' wheel got to go 'round Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel spinYou got no money and you got no home Spinnin' wheel all alone Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you, you never learn Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel turnDid you find the directing sign on the Straight and narrow highway Would you mind a reflecting sign Just let it shine within your mind And show you the colors that are realSomeone is waiting just for you Spinnin' wheel, spinnin' true Drop all your troubles by the riverside Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride
Thank you for your leadership RT @SenatorReid Thanks to all of you who encouraged me to consider filibuster reform. It had to be done. — Senator Jeff Merkley (@SenJeffMerkley) November 21, 2013
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo Gorsuch CONFIRMED!!!Kinda been a very, very, very, very, very, very bad week for the DUchebags.
The best part? Schmuck Schumer tried to filibuster, and lost that option in the future. I have to commend Senator McConnell for changing the Senate rules (which have only been in place for 60 years, not since the birth of the Republic) to end the filibuster for SCOTUS justices. The next SCOTUS Justice could be Sen. Ted Cruz . . . Or Rick Santorum . . .
Janice Brown
That would really **** with the primitives! However, I think that I heard that she isn't interested in going through the confirmation process again--it was too bruising when she was appointed to the DC Circuit.
Much of her 2-year confirmation delay was due to Ds' filibustering, the ice dam partly broken by the Gang of 14. Dingy Harry and Chuckles changed that.
What's her age now?
IIRC from W'pedia, she was born in 1949, so she'd be 67 or 68. One of the great things about Gorsuch is that he's fairly young. So there's a good chance, as I posted above, that he'll likely be a Supreme Court Justice for quite a while.
