Nunes: FBI Is Not Cooperating with Our Investigation into Trump Camp Surveillance

The FBI is not cooperating with the House of Representatives' investigation into the NSA's surveillance of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, the chairman of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), said today.

During an explosive press conference outside the White House, Nunes told reporters that communications from the Trump team were picked up and disseminated within the government during the 2016 campaign. Nunes said sources within the intelligence community presented him with the information. He spoke to the press after briefing the administration.

"We don’t actually know yet officially what happened to General Flynn," Nunes said of how communications from Gen. Flynn's calls were leaked to the press. "We just know that his name leaked out but we don't know how it was picked up yet. That was one of the things that we asked for in the March 15th letter, was for the NSA, CIA, and FBI to get us all the unmasking that was done."

"And I'll tell you, NSA is being cooperative," Nunes continued, "but so far the FBI has not told us whether or not they’re going to respond to our March 15th letter, which is now a couple of weeks old.”

Nunes also reported that as of now, he "cannot rule out" President Obama ordering the surveillance.

And contrary to earlier media reports, Nunes clarified that the surveillance was not related to the FBI's investigation into possible collusion with Russia. This surveillance, he emphasized to reporters, does not "have anything to do with Russia."

Nunes tells Trump that he may have been among those 'unmasked'

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., said Wednesday he had briefed President Trump on new information, unrelated to an investigation into Russian activities, that suggested several members of his transition team — and possibly the president himself — had their identities "unmasked" after their communications were swept up through incidental collection.

The "unmasking" of Gen. Mike Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser, led to details about his conversations with the Russian ambassador leaking to the press. The identities of Americans are supposed to remain "masked" if American communications are swept up during surveillance of foreign individuals.

Nunes said other individuals' names were included in intelligence reports that were then spread across the federal government, although he said his committee is still looking into how many Obama administration officials would have had access to those reports.

"There are dozens of reports that I was able to see," Nunes said. "There were additional unmaskings that occurred."

CONFIRMED: House Intel Chairman Says Trump Team Was Under Surveillance During Obama Admin

After weeks of media and Democrats (AND #NeverTrumpers) rolling their eyes about Trump’s claim of being wiretapped by the Obama administration, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes just dropped a bombshell.

Trump made a brief comment on the news:

DEVIN NUNES PRESS CONFERENCE ON “INAPPROPRIATE SURVEILLANCE” ON PRESIDENT-ELECT TRUMP

I briefed the president on the concerns that I had about incidental collection and how it relates to President-Elect Trump and his transition team; and the concerns that I have. As I said earlier, there will be more information hopefully by Friday.  The NSA is cooperating very very well; and lastly, I’ll say that the reports that I was able to see did not have anything to do with Russia or the Russian investigation or any tie to the Trump team.

Everything about what Chairman Nunes is now stating about the FBI delaying and potentially refusing to provide information backs up our earlier reference points on Comey.

Director Comey’s specific lack of transparency within his role and responsibility, shows he too has made the decision to politicize his own office.  Having done that Comey has painted himself into a corner where genuine sunlight is now a risk to the public discovering the politicization of his department.

Comey may not have set out to engage in that political outcome; but his willful blindness and quiet acquiescence to the political demands of the Obama White House, combined with his decision to go-along-to-get-along with the investigations to nowhere, have created that outcome.

His pride, just like with the Omar Mateen example, is now trying to protect a career and avoid the embarrassment of discovery.  Hence, he wears a black hat.
