Thanks to Conservative Cave - Sort of...


This is sort of a cautionary tale. Someone told me that the site named above had posted one of my threads from DU, so I went over to take a look. Imagine my surprise when I saw this photo of my father and the other current and retired Fire Department Chiefs from my home town in the thread. I was at the event where the photo was taken, which celebrated that department's 100 year anniversary. My father is at the center, and is the oldest man in the photo. I hadn't seen this photo, so I've saved it to my hard drive:


Here's the cautionary part: Someone has taken the time to track down my home town and find a photo of my father for posting on that website. I don't try to be anonymous on the Internet, since that's sort of an exercise in futility. But, it's interesting that anyone has so much interest in a DUer that they'd hunt for stuff related to me to that extent and post it. I don't care. It's a good photo and I'm very proud of my father, who is 92 years old now. However, others may not be as open as I am about their identities. That a website exists that dislikes DU so much that someone there would go to this extent in an attempt to mock a DUer is somewhat alarming.

He posted it this morning.  He's probably going nuts waiting for somebody to post about it over here.  At first glance his old man looks like a nice enough old gentleman, but on closer inspection one wonders what kind of stunt the old codger is trying to pull.  Is he the Fillmore town pimp?  What's up with the collar of his shirt hanging over his lapels and walking around swinging a pimp cane.  Cultural appropriation, that's what it is.

He committed suicide within months.

and all sorts of things about me. I suppose they think that is sort of intimidating or something. I don't know. I'm glad to have that photo, though.

Dammit, George, no - you had posted some weird idea on illegals, made me remember that you're not a native Minnesotan but from this town in SoCal, where your beyond-cool father still lives. Dot to dot, work on filling those footsteps.

35. Yes. I was glad to see that photo of a group of dedicated people.

It seems odd to me that someone would choose such an image to attempt to mock me. I couldn't be prouder of my father and all of those other people, each of whom I know.

32. My dad was 90 when that photo was taken.

He's 92, now, as is my mother, and they still live on their citrus farm. I'll be visiting them soon.

Leave it to the consummate gentleman franksolich to show me the error of my ways.  I may have been a bit out of line in my mockery of the old gentleman in my original post especially in light of the fact that I, myself, have worn an outfit very similar to that of the father of Rock Head--(Fossil Man?).  I posed with my shirt collar splayed open and hanging over my sport coat lapels for my high school yearbook photo.  In my defense, this was back in 1977.
