Boehner: Republicans won't repeal and replace Obamacare

He says talk in November about lightning-fast passage of a new health care framework was wildly optimistic.

 By Darius Tahir  | 02/23/17 11:04 AM EST  |  Updated 02/23/17 11:46 AM EST

Former House Speaker John Boehner predicted on Thursday that a full repeal and replace of Obamacare is “not going to happen.”

Boehner, who resigned in 2015 amid unrest among conservatives, said at an Orlando health care conference that the idea that a repeal-and-replace plan would blitz through Congress is just “happy talk.”

Instead, he said changes to former President Barack Obama’s signature legislative achievement would likely be relatively modest.

“[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare – I shouldn’t call it repeal-and-replace, because it’s not going to happen,” he said.

Boehner’s comments come as Republican lawmakers across the country are facing angry constituents at town halls worried that Obamacare will be yanked away without a suitable replacement.

Boehner dumps massive TRUTH BOMB on GOP

Ultimately, this impotence ended the tenure of Boehner as Speaker. In his place, we got Paul Ryan and after Donald Trump’s win in November, we thought FINALLY we’d be able to make some big changes, particularly since the president himself saw killing Obamacare as a key campaign promise.

Well, it was HIS promise, but apparently not that of the GOP.

You ready for a bucket of ice cold water? Here it is.

The Hill reports, Former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Thursday that a full repeal and replacement of ObamaCare is “not going to happen.”

Instead, Boehner said at a healthcare conference in Florida that Republicans will end up making smaller changes to the law.

“[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare — I shouldn’t call it repeal-and-replace, because it’s not going to happen,” Boehner said, according to Politico.

The comments are striking, coming from someone who led Republican opposition to ObamaCare for years.

“Most of the framework of the Affordable Care Act … that’s going to be there,” Boehner reportedly said at the conference, adding that “Republicans never ever agree on healthcare.”

Oh great. As we’ve reported here and here recently, congressional Republicans are already beginning to get nervous and “squishy” about making bold changes.

If I may insert myself once again into the story, during my service in Col. West’s congressional office, it became abundantly clear that those in power — and this is truly bi-partisan — will do whatever they can to stay in power. As a result, they are loathe to do anything dramatic that might upset somebody.

Which is precisely why we voted in Donald Trump, someone who lives and breathes doing things dramatic that might upset somebody. The question is, will he be able to get anything done ? Let’s hope Boehner will be proven wrong.

McConnell and Ryan have shown themselves to be wishy-washy with regards to Trump's wishes. He might have to crack the whip on them by holding rallies in their home states.

Can somebody please explain to me why Obozo's POS legislation should be replaced by ANYTHING?

Putting the government in charge of health care is another way of controlling us, perhaps the most compelling way. Health care is the last refuge of a free (used to be, anyway) people.
