Rep. Pete King: Leaks Must Be 'Prosecuted'

Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., said that the leaks coming from President Donald Trump's administration are dangerous for the U.S. intelligence community, and that the perpetrators must be held accountable.

"Anyone on the Democratic side who is not concerned about the leaks is being totally hypocritical," King said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom" Friday. "We aren't talking about a whistleblower here."

King, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, added that any leaked information about U.S. intelligence concerning Russia jeopardizes ongoing operations.

"That is a crime that has to be prosecuted. There are ramifications that go far beyond [former National Security adviser] Mike Flynn, in that this could undermine what we do internationally," he said.

"I am very concerned about leaks that violate national security laws, that go right to the heart of our counter terrorism and counter intelligence operations. I also believe it's essential that we fully investigate any involvement that Russia had in our election and the intelligence community is going ahead with that. That investigation should be followed as far as it has to. If there is any involvement by anyone in the Trump organization, the Trump operation, or the Trump campaign that's a very serious matter."

King vowed that Congress has to investigate both the leaks coming from the Trump administration, and the reports of Russian interference in the November election. He also referenced a recent article from The New York Times, which said that, "up until now after all these months of investigation there is no evidence of any criminal activity or collusion between the trump campaign and the Russian intelligence."

"If it leads somewhere, fine," he added. "The consequences to me are very serious. We can do both at the same time."
