The Trump Administration's Payoff to Its White Supremacist Supporters

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised to “take care of our African-American people.” Given Trump’s embrace of overtly or implicitly racist “law and order” policies, his history of racial discrimination against African-Americans and other people of color at his properties and his vigilante threats to commit a public lynching against the “Central Park Five,” there was always an element of menace to that declaration.



The threat is now confirmed. On Wednesday, Reuters reported as follows (with italics added):


The Trump administration wants to revamp and rename a U.S. government program designed to counter all violent ideologies so that it focuses solely on Islamist extremism, five people briefed on the matter told Reuters. The program, “Countering Violent Extremism,” or CVE, would be changed to “Countering Islamic Extremism” or “Countering Radical Islamic Extremism,” the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.

Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller are two of Donald Trump’s closest advisers. They both admire and are affiliated with white nationalists and white supremacists. Is this policy change a quid pro quo directed at the overt racists and neo-Nazis who supported Trump with enthusiasm? The American public will likely never know the answer. Nevertheless, the implications should be frightening: When the federal government declines to use its counterterrorism resources to combat violent white supremacy, it amounts to the same thing.

But Trump, who claims to have the "world’s greatest memory," seemed to have forgotten this by Feb. 28. When CNN’s Jake Tapper asked him about Duke, Trump claimed ignorance four times:

"Well, just so you understand, I don't know anything about David Duke. okay? I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So, I don't know.

"I don't know, did he endorse me or what's going on, because, you know, I know nothing about David Duke. I know nothing about white supremacists. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about. …

"I don't know any -- honestly, I don't know David Duke. I don't believe I have ever met him. I'm pretty sure I didn't meet him. And I just don't know anything about him."

The press focused on his comments regarding Duke. It just amazes me that journalist didn't hammer a seventh-year-old white man about his knowledge of white supremacist.

White supremacist people and groups are "out there". Government can't change that, just discourage them from acting out in violence. Black supremacist people and groups are "out there", too. Government can't change that, etc., but at least Trump will break with BHO's encouragement and abetting of the latter.

I'm not big on predictions, but I'll post this one. If some White supremacist group really imagines Trump is sympathetic to them and tries some violence, they'll learn the hard way that he is not. Hopefully they'll learn that without having done anything violent.

White supremacist people and groups are "out there". Government can't change that, just discourage them from acting out in violence. Black supremacist people and groups are "out there", too. Government can't change that, etc., but at least Trump will break with BHO's encouragement and abetting of the latter.

Honest Question: When was the last violent KKK rally? Or Aryan Brotherhood function? The last time a white supremacy group blocked interstates to shut down traffic, or looted and burned private businesses because something they don't like happened? Because that's what BLM does all the time.

Newsflash to DUmmies: You have a right to free speech, you don't have a right to be HEARD. No one can use the force of Government to silence you, but no one can be forced by the government to listen to you either.
MLK was effective because he understood that, he didn't stop people from going about their daily lives, just quietly required them to face their own racism as they did so. Because he didn't fight the police, that made the brutal tactics (water cannons and police dogs, etc) used against him MORE unacceptable to decent and civilized people. THAT is how you win hearts and minds.
Instead, you goons decide to go with the opposite tactic. Fight the police, disrupt everyday people going about their lives, cause massive property damage. Keep doing it, I'm sure a few more torched convenience stores will turn the tide.

There was some racist violence and killing in the early-mid 1960s. Maybe my memory is off, but the various white racist-supremacist groups seem to have been "persuaded" to go largely non-violent after the mid-1960s. I'm sure there have been race-motivated crimes by racist white individuals - e.g. the 3 idiots in TX in the 1990s who dragged a black man behind a pick-up truck. But they get reminders that their crimes have consequences, e.g. the guys in TX got convicted, with 2 sentenced to death (1 has been executed, the other is on death row) and 1 to life.

What started in the mid-late 1960s was riots like in Detroit and Watts (part of LA); BLM has revived that tactic. What no one seems to have noticed - outside of some conservative circles - is that the riots "helped" Detroit become a Hell-hole, and Watts (part of "South Central") and Oak Park (Sacramento) remained Hell-holes. If the normal, decent, residents of the relevant neighborhoods in Ferguson and Baltimore want to see the future of their neighborhoods, they should look to Detroit, South Central, and Oak Park.

How are the neighborhoods of the 1968 race riot in Baltimore faring? That's a simple question, insinuating nothing.
