Regarding the violent incident for which Shia-the-Cow got arrested, is there some threshold, some degree of violence beyond which DU-grade Progs would no longer say it was wholly deserved?

It's a novelty item for now; a fad. It won't be long until it's nothing but a web cam showing people walking by on the sidewalk.

If I were nearby, I'd show up with a picture of Hillary and repeat "She will not divide us". Someone will start abusing it once the crowds go away.

I'm starting to spot some regulars who hang out there several hours per day. One incentive is that food and drink in the form of pizzas and sandwiches are left by the livestream camera so the mooch factor might be part of the attraction. However, rents in NYC are very high so I don't know how they get by on free food. Probably most of them are Trust Fund Kids.

Not surprising that Jayden Smith is joining in too, since he's in a pretty much identical position.
The video of Shia attempting to freestyle rap is freaking hysterical due simply to how asinine it is. Apparently musical talent isn't one of his strengths, either.
In the video of his arrest, I'm thinking that the mindless fem- bot who kept putting her hand over the camera at random times was trying to obscure Shia's interacting with the cops in the background.

One of the reasons the leftwing loafers hang out at the livestream camera is so they can score free food and drink. In the pic below someone just sent them pizza and Pepsi. The loafer up front in the blue jacket and pizza slice is one of the regular loafers. Employment situation? Unknown.
