Oh my.

Obviously it's a mole, but a mole that needs to better its techniques.

I'm shaking mad...I need help! I think you guys can help

As being a college student goes, so does having a face book account. Some of my conservatives "friends" had been joining the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less group, and were regurgitating neo-con talking points. For all of you not familiar with facebook, it is an online community were we add friends and post pictures of each other drunk, and yes join groups to help define our profile.

I looked at what all the little repugs had to say and after I while I couldn't take it anymore. I went on the group and started to rip into their posts. At first it went well, my logic and gorilla thought attacks were knocking them aback. I could tell that they had never seen anything like it, and I let them all know how I felt about conservative doctrine.

However after a while I found myself fending off a constant deluge of mindless remarks, still I had the high ground, I wasn't name calling names and my attacks and counter-attacks were flawless and very articulate (IMO). However after a while I became trampled by a stream of ignorance, and sheeple telling me to "read a book" and "do my homework".

I kept telling those dumb mother****ers that oil prices would only fall a few cents in 10 years, but to no avail. I kept telling those stupid cocksuckers that they were playing right into the hands of the big oil companies, but again they came at me even more convoluted logic and talking points . The ultimate irony was that I have worked in a biodiesel plant, and I have seen the future. I shared my visions with them only to be called a communist. I trashed Fox "News" nonstop, only to watch them call me a Nancy Pelosi lover.

I gave a spartan effort only to be slain by 500 nations of the Hannity army. But what got me upset was the way in which they wouldn't except reality, and how they fought blindly for their corporate puppet masters. Who are these people? I know they are called conservatives, but I thought this degree of intellectual retardation was an isolated phenomenon, limited to small farming shanty town were I live.

I have been traumatized by these so called people. Is there behavior genetic? Is it a social or regional trait? What steps should I take in the future?

May the force be with you all...

Now, franksolich can't take too kindly to the boldened comment above, but never mind.

1. I hope you're not alone when you argue with them...

...are there other reality-based friends in the conversation with you?

He won't find them on Skins's island, alas.

4. I did have someone who had my back in the beginning

But I think the ignorance got to him, as it did me. I later got to know that guy, one good thing about going on there I guess.

2. Their behavior is unfortunately too much reality and that is something of the way it goes.

My recommendation it 1). Concentrate on your studies and school 2). Make and keep friends (Facebook ones, but better the real ones whom you see on a regular basis) with whom you can talk and who will support you as you support them on things that are of more immediate importance to your current life. 3). Fight the 'occasional good fight" (see #1) and skip the Facebook world for the most part (it's cutesy but not real). 4). Have a good time, but see #1.

The primitives appear to be on to him.

6. Thanks.

I think that is really the best approach.

8. Glad to be of what assistance I can be

Some folks won't change and you are just beating your head against a wall, trying to do so. That said even the most neocon ideologue can be a friend and someone whom you can agree with on some things, so don't toss the baby out with the bath water (it's really hard on the baby).

I have found that when the discussions start to get a bit strained that one of my "social conservative" friends and I just talk about "the political process overall" or pick on Congress (always a good target) or just talk about family or some other topic. There are work arounds if you want to find them and are both willing to respect each other's opinion and be willing to "agree to disagree" on somethings.

Yeah, the primitives are on to him.

3. Talk radio is a brainwashing mental disorder.

Some people are sociopaths and the best you can hope for is that the halfway normal people will see that when you argue with them.

The radial tire primitive isn't, though.

7. you'll notice that getting a bunch of liberals to agree on anything is like herding cats.

in other words,can't be done.

that's because we tend to think for ourselves, along with healthy doses of skepticism and self-doubt.

the conservative mind is easily swayed by the "might makes right" type of arguement, which means if you can catch one alone and shout louder,or can physically intimidate them, they might listen to what you have to say,as long as it can be contained in easy to chew soundbites.

Now, that has to rate as the primitive irony of the week.

10. Just ask them one simple question.

If we need new drilling and more oil. Then why is the United States exporting more oil than at anytime since WWII?

Then step back and watch their head explode.

One of course wishes the mole well, but he's no AsherHeimermann.

This line just killed me.

"......and my attacks and counter-attacks were flawless and very articulate (IMO)."

They all have a high opinion of themselves.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

They all have a high opinion of themselves.

Of course.  That's a characteristic of primitives that Margaret Mead observed 80 years ago.

Can you legally go to college and have a membership in projectionist union at the same time?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I dunno, but I think the AFL/CIO should be notified, because there's a whole lot of primitives running around without a card from their local of cinema projectors.
