...to FBI - as details surface of document's bizarre journey from Moscow

Sworn Donald Trump enemy John McCain admitted Wednesday that he passed the dossier of claims of a Russian blackmail plot against the president-elect.

The Arizona senator issued a public statement amid mounting questions of his exact role in the affair - and how a document riddled with errors and unverifiable claims came to be published.

'Late last year, I received sensitive information that has since been made public,' he said.

'Upon examination of the contents, and unable to make a judgment about their accuracy, I delivered the information to the Director of the FBI.

So we now know that "The Russians" were NOT just after Hillary and the Dems, they has a "useful fool" try to peddle fake news to damage Trump and the Republicans, as well...

CNN also mentioned McCain's action in their article publishing this hoax-story.

Since, unfortunately, the people of AZ didn't ballot-box retire McCain, the US is stuck with him for another 6 years. I realize he has significant seniority, but if the R Senate leaders don't visit consequences on him for taking part in this hoax attack on President Trump, the 2018 Senate elections may not go as well for the Rs as they should.

I suppose it would have been too difficult to take it to the RNC and Trump, especially after making a complete asshole out of yourself with them...

Personally, I think McCain needs to go away, I hate the sonofabitch.
That being said, if he simply handed off information that he received, that's what he should do... and not taking it upon himself to do some sort of validation investigation.
It was whoever released this bullshit to the public that needs legal proceedings brought against them. And if that was McCain, so be it.
All this little exercise did was leave egg on the faces of the dumbasses who promoted it. CNN will take the blunt of the damage for their raw and unfiltered partisanship behavior. They truly are nothing more than a propaganda arm for the democrat party now.
Buzzfeed? Not many give a single shit about those hacks anyway.

WASHINGTON

A Russian venture capitalist and tech expert whose name and company are mentioned in the now-notorious document alleging connections between the Donald Trump campaign and Russian hackers says no intelligence officers have ever contacted him about the accusations, which he says are false.

As often as McCain must have seen intelligence documents in his years as a naval officer and/or his decades in Congress McCain should have recognized those documents were badly composed phonies. His proper response would have been to toss them into the proverbial round file next to his desk.

As one commentator I've read pointed out, these documents have been shopped around to various "news" orgs for months. They didn't report them, because they couldn't verify them - not for lack of expending considerable effort, I'm sure (maybe memories of Dan Blather and Mary Mapes helped them restrain themselves). But for all their restraint in not publishing this @#$%, the awareness of what they thought they had had to color their reportage of Trump, and not just a pastel tinge, either.

I am on board if there was some collusion, but I still think, no matter how ridiculous, the correct process was to turn the stuff in and wash your hands.
Assuming McCain wasn't in on the leaking part, of course.
If someone came to me with a complaint, I wouldn't consider it my job to figure out if it were true. I'd hand the info over to the dept that I am supposed to be able to trust.
Of course, this is all wishful thinking. The departments have been politicized and are obviously beyond corrupted now.
