Should everyone automatically be an organ donor unless they opt out?

That is what France has done. If you don't want to donate your organs, you must inform the government, otherwise you will possibly save others' lives after you perish.

Seems like a smart move, considering that there's a shortage of vital organs and so many people awaiting transplants. I wish the same legislation would be adopted here.

A major public health change swept France on New Year's as new regulations making citizens automatic organ donors unless they specifically choose to opt out through a national database took effect.

The new "opt-out" system is aimed at combating widespread organ shortages and long wait lists for transplants. Previously, French citizens who hadn't specified whether or not they wanted donate after dying could have their organs' fate left up to relatives. Now, the responsibility will fall on individuals, and next-of-kin will no longer have carte blanche veto power.

Those who object to donating their organs will have to sign up with a National Register of Refusal or make their intents known through written documents they leave with their families. They can also tell their relatives that they've chosen to opt out, and these family members would then have to provide signed documentations to that effect to doctors. About 150,000 people have already signed up for the refusal register, according to The Guardian.

Opt-out donation systems already exist in a number of places in Europe, including Spain, Austria, and Wales. While they can be controversial, there's at least some research suggesting that they improve donation rates in countries that adopt them.

Only when it comes to drugs and abortions do liberal/progs believe you should have control over your own body...
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

F@ck that noise, I don't want them to be in any moral quandary about whether my organs would do more good in me, or in someone else.  They can keep that shit.

My first thought too...a death panel deciding treatment on a person with a lucrative harvest in the mix.

Considering that there are some religions that require the body to be buried as whole as possible I bet the primitives are loving this idea.

Once again proving that the fascist left's love affair with baby killing is nothing more than evil straight from hell. In organ harvesting, it is not "My body, my choice."
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Should everyone automatically be an organ donor unless they opt out?

True DUmmy, you are definitely on the left side of the DU bell curve. In other words, "Damn, son, you are dumber than DUmb!"

What are the unintended consequences of your little scheme?

If the State has the power to own (make first claim of possession) your body after your death, then it owns your body while you are alive. If the State owns your body, then it has the power to dispose of it as politicians and bureaucrats may choose.

Such a state could:
*Harvest your organs without your consent while you are alive;
*Mandate abortion for population control;
*Mandate the mass execution of people for population control;
*Mandate abortion for defective fetuses (you know, unborn babies), including defining genetic intersex babies as "defective";
*Mandate the execution of homosexuals, trannies, and physically or mentally handicapped people of any age, which would thin Skinner's herd by about 2/3 (conservatively estimated);
*Mandate the involuntary insemination of women, for selective breeding;
*Mandate that all pregnant women carry their babies to term, or be executed.
... and the list goes on and on.

Still sound like a good idea, DUmbshit?

No?

That is why some of us believe in a little thing called "rights"; like Life, Liberty, Property, and Pursuit of Happiness.

Now, go and choke on a dick, asshole. School is out.

Government is the negation of liberty.

The DUmmies are not worried about being mandatory donors. I have heard organs are not likely to be harvested from drug users or those with STD's.
