"How can this race be so close?" Stop asking! Here's why!
SLiberalismry day I see people on DU who are still surprised the race can be so close. Obama is obvious the smarter candidate, and way better qualified to be president. Still, he and McCain are doing 50-50 in the polls. And I see people at DU who are stunned by this. REALLY?

Obama has explained why: "They take pride in being ignorant! They actually think it's funny, to make fun about something that's actually true!" And they DO! Last night, I spent my time on another political board, where mostly right-wingers post. This is what they think, this is what we are up against:

"Science is flipflopping."

Somebody actually said that. They asked why scientists have changed their way of thinking about global warming (which they called "a lie") and I explained that this is how science works: you're doing new research, you gather new evidence and you revise your previous conclusions. And my whole argument got swept away by that one word: "flipflopping". So there you have it: scientists are nothing more but flipfloppers.

"The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, (MS)NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and BBC are not credible sources."

I explained that McCain attended zero Congressional hearings on Afghanistan. But apparently, if it hasn't been on Fox News, it isn't true! The other sources listed are all part of the ´liberal media´ who is trying to indoctrinate the country with left/wing lies.

And my favorite is when one of the freepers explained to me what liberalism is:

"Liberalism doesn't work.

Liberalism is where:

- The hard-working pay for the lazy.
- The harder-working get punished for their effort through added taxes.
- The people who wait to have children until they can afford them pay for people who can't afford them.
- Take possession of brilliant ideas and don't give any credit to inventors.
- Think that huge government bureaucracy is better than thousands of job-producing companies.
- Think Americans get rich off greedy corporations who are only interested in making a profit. The truth is that Americans get rich off capitalism fostering the invention of many items and devices seen today.
- Embraces the fact that the poorest and laziest people in society contribute the least while taking the most.
- Hates rich corporations, yet fail to acknowledge how many people they employ and how many millions they contribute to society via taxes and charity.”

THIS is why the race is so close. To them, McCain makes perfect sense. Obama is an 'idiot'. Why? Sean Hannity said so! So they vote for McCain. And these are people we are never going to convince otherwise. And that's why a McCain presidency isn't such a long shot.

P.S. If you want to visit that board, here it is:

(I was there under the name 'Mr. Citizen'.)

He's got the liberal description down perfect. :cheersmate:

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Just HOW is Obama more qualified? Because you people think he's "smarter"? Hell, if that was all it took, Albert Einstein was smarter than Obama could ever hope to be and I'll bet even HE would argue he made a better scientist than president. In the real world people work their way up to positions of greater responsibility. Your average 16 year old has to work the drive-thru window and flip a few burgers before he becomes shift supervisor. One doesn't generally jump from sales associate to CEO. Your average new PhD in Literature of the Middle Ages doesn't step right into a tenured position and department head. I have a relatively successful chicken business but that doesn't qualify me to be President of Tyson Foods. Honestly, can even ONE Obama supporter tell me just how he's qualified to be president? There's very little experience to point to to gauge his ability as a leader. What are his accomplishments? I don't want platitudes...I want examples, specifics. I don't want to hear anything about "change", either. Putting up new wallpaper in my kitchen is "change". Rearranging my living room furniture is "change". Both are also "change I can believe in" otherwise I wouldn't have done them.

Whether I agree with him or not, John McCain has a verifiable record of accomplishments. His record not only illustrates an allegiance to and love of his country but a consistency of thought. When he does change his mind, he acknowledges said change and explains his reasons for doing so. He doesn't run to a microphone and say, "I've always said..." when he hasn't always "said" XYZ. Most of us call that a lie. Oh, and while it may be a negative to most of you idiots at the DUmp, the majority of Americans, myself included DO expect a president of this country to be patriotic. How can you serve your country if you hate what it stands for and view it's citizens with contempt? It would be like Ingrid Newkirk being hostess at Outback Steakhouse...I don't think she could enthusiastically list the days specials.

Oh, and exactly WHAT board were you on? Because I've NEVER been on any conservative message board that said science is "flipflopping". Hell, I'd like to see MORE flipflopping by global warming "scientists". New information comes out all the time and yet they staunchly (and blindly) hang on to their convictions as if they feared angering some vengeful god. Then there's the ever growing number of scientists, climatologists, etc. who debunk global warming and/or it's causes and dangers. Science involves inquiry not consensus. So far, not one of the global warming gurus is willing to have a serious discussion with those scientists who don't believe the world will end in 10 years.

The news sources you mention...when they do a negative story on your boy, you rail on and on about what liars they are. At least we're consistent in our skepticism. You loved the polls when they showed Obama 15 points ahead but now that more and more people are beginning to see what an empty suit he is, that he's more hype than hope and his numbers are going down, suddenly the pollsters all right wing shills. Anyone who can say that about Zogby with a straight face is truly insane. Intellectual honesty doesn't seem to be your strong suit and yet we're supposed to be the paranoid, stupid bumpkins clinging to our guns and God (like that's a bad thing). An interest in self-preservation and protection and a reverence for the divine have nothing to do with IQ. Frankly, I think it's rather stupid to NOT want to protect one's home and family.

Oh, and I rarely listen to Sean Hannity. I'm perfectly capable of forming my own opinion. I don't even need to belong to a hive so I can get daily reassurance that my beliefs aren't supposed to change, that there's no new talking points, and I'm including the latest PC, unoffensive phrase in my conversations.

Actually, he's not even qualified to be a community organizer.

Thanks DUmbass!

That is exactly how this side of the equation does feel.............and it's true.  Look at how the DUchebags constantly post that they can't understand how people vote against their interests. Which from a DUmmy's view is take, take, take.  But to expect a leach to act different than it's basic nature is denying reality.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I'll play. Here's a few cases-in point:

Undergroud Panther, anyone?

- The harder-working get punished for their effort through added taxes.

What's Obama planning to do with the Bush Tax Cuts?

- Think that huge government bureaucracy is better than thousands of job-producing companies.

They want to nationalize Health care, oil companies, etc., etc.

- Embraces the fact that the poorest and laziest people in society contribute the least while taking the most.

Again, how much does the government steal and redistribute to Underground Panther every month?

- Hates rich corporations, yet fail to acknowledge how many people they employ and how many millions they contribute to society via taxes and charity.”

If only they paid attention to what the big companies do for charity.

He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.
