They have an atheist summer camp....good...they can quit f***ing with the Boy Scouts.
It's ok JR we in the scouts pretty much ignore them anyway!
I mean bringing suits, you know, the church and state Shiite. The Boy Scouts around here are usually spnsored by a church and they do say a prayer once in awhile. So, the local idiots worry about lawsuits, no scout use of government buildings etc.. When I was a kid, the whole county (small population), every scout in the county, every troop, would meet at the courthouse for 'Court of Honor'. Hey, we thought it was a big deal getting merit badges in the courthouse in front of everyone else. Now it's just individual troops doing it by themselves.
I really got pissed with the school last year. My son had been making good grades, been on the academic challenge team, no behavioral marks againist him and so on. He had earned several "Dress Down Days" when he could wear something other than the usual school uniform. He had just earned his First Class rank and a few merit badges and he was so proud he wanted to wear his scout uniform to school. I made a special trip to carry him to school that morning, keep the uniform neat and clean. I walked in the back door at home and the phone was ringing, "Hey Daddy. Come get me. They won't let me wear my scout uniform to school". From some of the stuff I've seen'em wearing for dress down day and they won't let my son wear a scout uniform,.....I was primed and ready but the Principal "wasn't" there when I got back to the schoolhouse. I just took some other clothes and he changed in the teaches lounge.
I'm going to brag a little. Son has forefilled all the requirements for star now (time, leadership position, community service and merit badges). He'll get it in Sept. at the next court of honor. He has enough of the Eagle required badges that all he needs is community service time to get the rank of Life Scout. He's 5 badges, time, and his eagle project short of being an Eagle Scout. If he stays on course he'll be an Eagle Scout a few weeks after turning 14. Right now he's an asst. patrol leader and asst. chaplin but they're going to move him up the ladder come sept.. He's going off this weekend for his Order of the Arrow Ordeal and if he can twist the preachers arm enough, complete his God and Country Award next week before school starts. God and Country is what they called it 50 years ago when I was in the Scouts. I think they might call it something else now. I would ask him but he's not here right now. He's an asst. 'something are other' this week at church for vacation bible school.
OK, so he ain't a chip off the old block. He's all mine, believe me, all mine. The milkman had nothing to do with it.
