Does anyone else feel they are stuck in a job where they have to put on a mask.. (I bet your parents make you wear one, too, homeboy)

Does anyone else here work a job where they feel they have to wear a mask that goes against their own beliefs? Due to severe depression and anxiety issues (The Curse of the DUmmy) I have been working retail jobs most of my life despite technically having the aptitude for so much more. (Let's just see about that) I've always wanted to be a cosmologist (you couldn't even me a cosmetologist, dipshit) or mathematician and I've had the smarts for it.(Suuuuuuure you do.) Which is NOT to look down on those in retail. I have met more amazing friends in my years of retail than I ever did at school. Bit I don't feel good about myself because I know technically I am capable of much more. (Suuuuuure you are) At any rate I have had to put on a mask of the gung go employee. Or rather I should say I have done so willingly because I terribly fear failure (I fear bad grammar), and because I am by nature a hard worker and perfectionist. But it has mean swallinging (sic) a lot of bullshit. We daily receive pressure from above in the form of cloyingly worded emails about having to come together as a retail team to "crush it". They even send out emails personally shaming and praising certain individuals based on a ranking of some specific metric they are tracking that week. The truth is that the results are as much down to random hapistance (let me guess...you work at Spelling, Inc.) as anything. At any rate I detest that I have to deal with this on a daily basis. At the store level I have made some cloae friends and in general people are amazing. But I can't help always but feel that I'm having to bury who I really am when I'm forced every day to send an email back to head office about who in the store did the best and who did the worst and how we are going to take actions to make sure the worst do better. Can anyone else here relate?

Can I just say, WELCOME BACK, Loco. We missed you.

It is certainly obvious from his writings that he is a perfectionist and technically gifted.  As I recall, he lasted about a week in grueling college dorm life.

This is the same guy who's parents paid for his college...and then he had anxiety attacks and dropped out?

I'm betting retail translates to, "Would you like fries with that?"

His retail career amounts to pushing a broom down the aisles.

The locust primitive is the guy who, because he felt sorry for him, Skins named "host" of one of the television sub-forums on Skins's island, with the hopes he'd gain some social confidence.

Once named, he got so frightened he ran away from Skins's island and didn't come back for a few months, until after others had forgotten he was a host.

"Aptitude," my ass.  He's got the aptitude of a parasite, nothing more than that.

"Swallinging" would be a good portmanteau of 'swallowing' and 'cringing', of which Locopuffs undoubtably has much experience.

I give him some slack.  He may well be technically intelligent, but he's clearly mentally/emotionally unhealthy, which is not something he can necessarily understand or fix.  I'm glad he's at least working so he won't be completely cast onto the streets once his parents go to their reward.
