All joking and snark aside, there is one huge reason that urban populations as they exist will never 'connect' with rural populations, no matter how many roads or rails urbanites build. This is something that most (D)Ummies and urbanites don't know that they don't know.
Rural living requires one to be connected at the hip to reality. What do I mean by that? Rural folks, with few exceptions, are nuts and bolts people. They have to be. There is no triple A for a lawn mower that needs a blade sharpened, or needs a new blade. There isn't a car dealership on every corner. There is no one to call when one of your fences goes down and the cows get out, and you can't just wait until tomorrow when you need to seed or harvest today. While urbanites might have someone come and change a flat tire in 30 minutes, ruralites are back on the road in ten, because we HAVE to be. We don't have the luxury of siting in the car and ignoring the rain or snow or the heat or cold until someone competent arrives to fix our problem. When someone breaks into OUR houses, the police are only 30 minutes away. We don't just pick up the phone and dial-a-hope, like so many urbanites suggest we should be limited to doing. Far more often that not, when there is a problem, rural folks take care of it themselves, because they have to, because daily life must go on. And because among other reasons, we take a great deal of pride in being functional resourceful and independent, we prefer it that way. We are not hive minded collectivist insects, and we don't want to be. Those are the real reasons that so many urbanites look down their noses at ruralites, and we know it.
Rural areas aren't built on chinese goods and convenient service economics like the urban areas are. And usually, there isn't money to waste on things that can be properly addressed without it. That was the reason so many ruralites opposed obunglecare for example. The obunglecare mandate interfered with an equation that ruralites don't understand, that effected very negatively people that we know urbanites don't give a shit about.
The connection to reality that ruralites have, can not be broken by bumper sticker slogans talking points or accusations of racism, sexism homophobia or xenophobia, as it has been with urbanites. Those things can not trump reality in places where reality is life and ignoring it comes at a cost, up to and including ones own life or livelihood - or worse - having to live in a collectivist hell hole because one fails at reality. The (D)Ummies, the left, and the media would do well to learn and understand this, but we all know that they wont. Reality scares them and it therefore must be destroyed.
