Has anyone ever heard before last month that the purpose of the Electoral College was to make sure a "qualified" candidate actually was inaugurated?
Yes, actually, because I paid attention in civics classes in school.
The problem here is that DUmmies and other assorted Leftists can't handle dealing with the fact that "qualified" is clearly spelled out in the Constitution: U.S. citizen, over age 35, and a resident of the United States for at least the last fourteen years. According to them, "I really, REALLY don't like him" is some sort of disqualifier.
Yes, the Electoral College was indeed intended to be a final bulwark against electing a President who was not qualified. But what the Founders clearly intended was that they didn't want the people of the country getting fooled into electing Louis XVI for President, not to protect against someone the Left just doesn't like.
