Host Dagen McDowell objected, saying no comparison should be made between Trump and a "murdering thug who tortured people." Fox would not back down.

    No, I don’t take it back, I insist. On his genes, they are similar authoritarians. They impose their wills. They only think that they have the right and the reason. He only won — in the case of Trump with 25 percent of American support — American and citizen support. That it doesn’t give him enough of a mandate to impose his own ideas over a nation and over the world.

Former Mexican president Vicente Fox compared President-elect Donald Trump to the dead Cuban dictator Fidel Castro on Fox Business Tuesday morning.

Host Dagen McDowell asked Fox for his take on Castro and the future of Cuba due to his frosty relations with Castro while he was leading Mexico.

After calling Castro a dictator and saying that there are good relations with the Cuban people, Fox brought his attention back to Trump, who Fox strongly criticized throughout the 2016 election.

“That kind of dictatorship, that kind of authoritarian leader is very similar to Trump,” Fox said. “They lie, they cheat, they are false prophets, they promise many things but are not going to be able to comply.”

McDowell instantly paused the conversation and asked Fox to take the comment back, calling it “beyond the pale.”

Fox did not take his remarks back but instead doubled down on them. Fox said that both were “authoritarian, they imposed their wills, they only think they have the right and the reason” and that Trump did not have a mandate from the American people.

At the end of the segment, McDowell again condemned Fox’s comments.

“Fidel Castro was a murdering dictator who crushed the freedoms of his own people and to compare him to Donald Trump, I will say it, is beyond the pale and repugnant,” McDowell said.
