President-elect Donald Trump has offered the job of attorney general to Sen. Jeff Sessions, CBS News reported Friday morning.

Trump has been deeply impressed with Sessions, his transition team said Thursday of the longtime supporter who was also reportedly had been under consideration for secretary of defense and attorney general.

Republican National Committee spokesman Sean Spicer, who is involved in the Trump presidential transition, would not confirm the reports early Friday.

"Until Donald Trump says it, it's not official," Spicer said on CNN.

On Thursday, the Trump team said in a statement that while  he "is still talking with others as he forms his Cabinet, the president-elect has been unbelievably impressed with Sen. Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama's Attorney General and U.S. Attorney."

All Hell Just Broke Loose At The GOP Convention As Ted Cruz Refuses To Endorse Trump

By Jason Easley on Wed, Jul 20th, 2016 at 9:58 pm

It became clear early on in his speech that Sen. Cruz was out to knife Donald Trump in the back.

Ted Cruz rambled on about the Republican vision for the future, which was really Ted Cruz’s vision for the future. Cruz eventually got around to saying that there is a better vision for the future. Cruz called it a return to freedom. He rambled on about Hillary Clinton and President Obama, but one name was missing in his speech. Cruz conspicuously avoided mentioning Donald Trump’s name.

Trump Taps Sessions for AG, Pompeo for CIA

President-elect Donald Trump is moving ahead with filling key posts in his administration, picking Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions for the job of attorney general and Rep. Mike Pompeo as head of the CIA.

The announcements came on the heels of Trump's decision to tap former military intelligence chief Michael Flynn as national security adviser.

Sessions and Pompeo would both require Senate confirmation before assuming their designated roles; Flynn would not.
